I'm almost certain that Rodgers would have liked to stay as a backup for two more seasons. His agent probably would've told the Packers organization to trade him elswhere or give him a pay raise since he would technically still be the "future" if/when Favre leaves. I'd rather not frett about this. Glad it happened sooner rather than later.
