Time to move on from Jordy and Mathews unless they’re ready to sign “I wanna finish my career as a Packer”deals. It’s not a matter of... do you have somebody as good or better.... it’s overall allocation of resources. If you wanna sell jersies then by all means keep them around. If we seriously want to compete for titles it is long since time to move on.

Jordy was comeback player of the year just one year ago and 4 games in this season was already on pace for 80-90 catches, around 1,000 yards and 15+ TDs. Long since time to move on?

Comeback player of the year was a nice feel good story but was he honestly worth the money? Who cares what he was “on pace for”.... what did he actually produce? He’s a fan favorite, a lot of people have jerseys, but he’s not worth what he’s being paid. It happens

Honestly, you think 97 catches 1,200+ yards and 14 TD's is just everyday WR production? He won the comeback player on that. It was far more than a feel good story. and I care what he was on pace for, because the QB he has a mind meld going on with on the field is coming back. The QB who couldn't throw a deep ball 1 out of 20 attempts is hopefully 3rd string or off the team.

incase it wasn't it mentioned. Russ Ball, Andrew Brandt and the like did negotiations with players. Ted gave a number but they did all the work

Rodgers' deal is going to end up being more than anyone ever imagined. $142m+/5yr+/$100m+ guaranteed.

More than 70% guaranteed??? Not unless Russ Ball gets hit by a train.

We’re possibly on the verge of a 3rd formidable Pass rush specialist to compliment Clay and Perry. Taking the focus off of Matthews should automatically increase his production.

One option is to extend his contract through 2019 and get Clay on a short term deal that allows us to walk away again in 2019 if he doesn’t produce adequately this season.

We could also use his services as an overlap with his successor for a season or two. I believe he will hit double digit sacks again if he has a guy opposite him taking focus off him some.
Let’s give Pettine a chance to have a say in Clays immediate future. Clay May play an integral role in turning the tide until we can secure the personnel needed to right this ship.

Maybe, but isn't that what Peppers was supposed to do? In Peppers first year, Clay had his third, and last, double-digit sack year, but after that, it was 6.5 and 5.

I agree. Rodgers and Nelson have a chemistry and that takes time to build. I honestly don't see Nelson having lost a step. I see a young QB who is not as good as he thought he was.

No way you can get rid of Matthews without him your bad pass rusher situation becomes unsolvable. If you keep Matthews and add a pass rusher high in the draft and probably a 2nd in the middle rounds things start looking pretty good. Also look for new DC to lead to a recival of sorts for Matthews Pettine will get the most out of Matthews play making talent. As for nelson you could live without him but I think it'd be much better to sign him to a 1or 2 year extension that drastically reduces his cap number. I think he can be very valuable to Rodgers for at least 2 more seasons. If anything I think you move on from Cobb and replace him with a draft pick. But I like the idea of one more run with nelson Adams Cobb trio

Jordy and Clay are in decline, and Cobb won't be worth his contract.
Jordy takes a big pay cut, trade Cobb. Probably no good options with Clay, so he sticks for one more year as is and hope for the best.

Cobb had a ho-yum season and would get $9.5 mil from another team, about 17th overall for WR. What's even reasonable to think of getting in a trade?

If they don't restructure, there is no need to cut anyone until they need to be cut. To quote a line from Starship Troopers... ' You're it, until you're dead or I find someone better.'

Once cut, you absolutely need to fill that void. Not cut, you can look to improve via the normal course of the draft and possibly free agency knowing that if you need to cut, you can.

hooray ... we get rid of a bad deal.... and probably make the team even worse ... but hey it was a bad deal.

Right, because there is no way to replace him. Just no options at all. So just stay same ol' same ol' and we can talk about another wasted year of Rodgers career.

I honestly don't think that we're that far away from regaining our 2011-2014 form as far as Offensive personnel wise. I'm actually far more concerned with fixing this Defense than I am trying to cut a WR who averages basically 1000 all purpose yards per season. We should probably be looking at another Wide receiver towards the top of this draft though. If we find a gem we can always make this decision next year, we've got bigger fish to fry so to speak

What I am hearing from some people, we should just package Clay, Jordy and Cobb up with a 2nd rd. pick and send them to Cleveland? :coffee:
