Hope our CBs aren't seriously hurt and that it was just heat cramps or something Gonna be a tough matchup on Benjamin and Olsen, particularly if we are keeping a linebacker or safety down low to try and keep contain on Super Cam.

Unless we figure out how to defense a mobile QB, this game will be like the Dolphins game.
Carolina's defense is ranked 27th (23 against pass; 27 against run) by Pro Football Focus after the first 5 weeks, so I expect the offensive line to show up. We should be able to control the LOS against a below average defensive front.

packers have never done well against Mobile qbs . This game scares me because we don't cover good tightends either, and the main reason for that is because AJ Hawk nor Brad Jones can cover man to man. You could bring haha up to help as I'm not to concerned they can beat us through the air....then again they made tannehill look pretty good. I sure hope Clay gets his stuff together for this game. He's been nowhere to be found and Newton will make him look bad if he doesn't stay home on that read option.

The Panthers have given up a lot of points in the last four weeks not playing Rodgers.

I expect a big game for Rodgers and we win if we slow them down just a little.

I like that this game is at Lambeau and as stated earlier, Carolina defense has been giving up some yards and points.

We need to dust off our game plan for the '9ers playoff game last year where we did a decent job against the read/option. Even then, we'll probably need to score a bunch of points to win. I'd feel better about shutting down Benjamin if we had one of our two guys with experience against big receivers, but I guess this is what House has been waiting for...

A clue to what kind of game to expect might be in that 2011 game, in the second week of the season, between these two down in Carolina. Then defending Super Bowl Champion Green Bay faced then rookie qb Cam Newton and gave up 432 passing yards to the year's top draft pick; making just his second pro start.

The Packers won the game 30-23 , though, as league MVP Aaron Rodgers passed for 308 and the defense did turn in 4 turnovers- 3 by Charles Woodson- to overcome an early 13-0 deficit. After the game Rodgers said it was a good thing the Packers were facing a rookie Newton because he was going to be a real problem when he got more NFL experience.

Well, that more experienced Newton is coming to Green Bay this week, fresh off perhaps his best showing of the season in a road tie with Cincinnati. Against the highly regarded Bengals defense last week he passed for 284 and rushed for 107 yards and his team was just a missed fourth quarter field goal from a win.

The Panthers are the defending champion and currently leader of the NFC South Division so they should be respected. Their defense was ranked second in the NFC last year but is struggling this season. Still, they have turned in a couple of games holding opponents, including Detroit, down and they have a couple of guys who will have to be accounted for in lb's Luke Kuechly and Thomas Davis.

They no longer have scary receiver Steve Smith and will be without back DeAngelo Williams for this game. Jonathan Steward is expected to return from injury but has been out for awhile and may have a little rust to knock off.

Cam Newton is their best chance and there's no reason to think the Packers defense will stop him any more than the Bengals were able to do last week. I expect he'll put up similar passing and rushing numbers to that game, but if the Packers can pick him 2 or 3 times it will be a difference maker.

Based on the history of the season so far the Packer offense should have a productive day against this suddenly leaky defense. The Panthers are vulnerable both on the ground and through the air so the Packers should have a good balance day and if they do it will help the defense much. The Panthers have been routed this season by Baltimore and Pittsburgh so it's possible this could be a big Green Bay win, if they turn in a game like they did against Chicago or Minnesota.

But if the real Cam Newton and the typical Packers defense shows up it could be close well into the fourth quarter. Either way I expect the Packers to win.

Carolina has no real weapons besides Cam Newton's read-option and Greg Olson. Receivers are marginal and RBs are terrible. There defense without Hardy, Munerlyn, and their safety (can't remember name) has been a complete opposite of last year. This is not last year's team with a superb defense and multi-headed running attack to support Cam Newton. This is the Cam Newton show with a bunch of off-off-off Broadway actors that you've never heard of.

It will still be a game but the Packers win easily in the end. No last-second drama

Do we chip off on Charles Johnson with one of our RBs or TEs to help the O-line? Or do we try and neutralize one of their LBs like Keuchly or Blackburn?

I think this game is gonna require Rodgers to get the ball out quick and stay patient with those longer drives that take the more shorter pass plays, so let's hope we don't get too carried away with constantly trying to hit the big plays downfield in this one. Their defense is excellent in open field tackling so it won't be full of easy scoring. I do think one thing we should run on these guys is a lot of no-huddle or quick count offense to keep them from substituting when we pick up first downs. That's one way you can keep them from keying in, use a lot of uptempo style.

Btw, even though DeAngelo Williams is out, I actually think Fozzy Whitaker may be a better RB.

Just read that Jonathan Stewart plans to start. That definitely helps out their running game if he's healthy.

This is a home game and Carolina's defense has taken a step or two back from what it was last year. Our running game should be a go which leads to "Jordy Nelson" bombs. Panthers also have limited weapons on offense. Once again we should beat these guys but Kam could make it closer then we like.

Greg Olson can catch a ball thrown to him. ... but the guy is not really much of a weapon in terms of a guy you need to game plan around. Certainly not the way I think of great TE that require double teams and full attention.

We (GB) are gaining cohesiveness on the offensive side of the ball entering the second trimester. This is where talented teams begin to see some regularity in synchronization (not counting games against depth chart QBs AND RBs). Were at home 60% of the rest of the season and we're downhill on a W streak with injuries netting out.
On D, With all the talk (mine included) about the early games run gashing and with the QB options making us the dictatee, we have given up just marginal rushing yardage and stiffened when it mattered most, particularly in the last 2 games. Now, this week it's out with the coup d'essai and in with the coup d'état for our D. This game finishes closer than it was... After were "gone fishing" at 3:15pm

It's Cam the Sham and his Pharaohs coming to town. Cam is an one-man show. An amazing one-man-show that has all the tools to give the Packers' defense fits. But other than him, the Panthers just don't have the weapons.

The thing that amazes me about this Panther team is that last year they were a defense to be feared. This year they are one of the worst. Who would'a thunk it? That's the difference in this game. They can't stop the run and they don't have a good pass rush. If Lacy gets going and Rodgers has time to throw, that's pretty much the game. Rodgers is playing like an MVP. Newton will probably abuse the Packers' defense, but not as badly as Rodgers & co. will do. Time to sit back and watch the offensive fireworks in this one come Sunday. Should be quite a show.

Panthers injury report: WR Kelvin Benjamin (concussion) and RB Darrin Reaves (calf) questionable, RB Fozzy Whittaker (thigh), G Amini Silatolu (calf), LB Chase Blackburn (knee) and CB Bene Benwikere (ankle) are doubtful.

Jonathan Stewart will start at RB.

I've followed this guy his entire NFL career. Like I said, he's not a guy the Packers need to worry about. He'll catch balls and make some plays but he's not a guy that anyone needs to lose sleep over. His stats this year on that team doesn't mean squat to me. Like I said a million times ... this is YET ANOTHER case of an NFL player with a long less than impressive history who suddenly has a nice stretch and now "Boy, THAT guy is awesome. Wish WE had a guy like him". 6 games does not a career make!

It's not cherry picking stars just because you don't like the results. However you want to look at it Olsen has been productive over his career (5th most receptions, 6th most TDs by a TE since entering the league, at his current pace he'll be top 10 all-time in both categories at some point next season).

That doesn't make any sense. The Panthers struggles at WR mean opponents can shift coverages towards Olsen, making it tougher for him to put up huge numbers.

That's exactly why I would love to have a guy like Olsen on the roster.
