I think he’s at worst an above average Teams starter to lower end Rotational LB. His + upside though is he could get into a niche role subbing at LB and just tear it up. While he absolutely failed for a top #8 selection while in Arizona, he did produce and was still deemed tradable for draft equity. He’s also still very young, with relatively minimal usage for a 6th year player. Physically he’s in his prime and he did benefit from experience.

So while he’s likely not a Probowl addition. He could add some splash plays that surprise and give us an upgrade on Teams where he can use his strength and speed to chase down the ball.

He didn't have all that bad of numbers while in Arizona, but after being traded to the Giants, his game took a big hit. Obviously, being traded after only 3 seasons, for just a 7th rounder, tells you he wasn't in the Cardinals future plans.

I am not familiar with either teams roster, was he beat out by below average, average or above average players? I also have to admit, I don't know much about Simmons, was he considered to be un-coachable, bad teammate, locker-room cancer, etc.?

Idk.
I do know that the switch to Safety looks like it failed. Also he went to NY and got the lowest D snap count of his career, playing around 25% snap count across his 2 seasons. Kinda hard to be a high impact guy when you’re used for seasonal level (below PT) work. Even Rashan Gary didn’t do much with 25% behind Z and Preston

My hope is Jeff Hafley has a plan for him where he turns into a version of Eric Wilson. A guy 6’4” 240lb doesn’t need to be playing Box Safety. We’ve got options for that.

When Eric Wilson first came aboard he was used sparingly on Defense. His very first play was a blocked punt on Teams. I see a similar pathway to rotational LB

Personally, I will take the under on Simmons seeing 25% of snap counts in GB. As always just my amateur opinion. Of course bad luck with injuries could change that.

But like 75% or more of the teams snaps. I’m right there with ya , if you said Ty place an over under of defensive snaps line it’d likely be around that

Last season Green Bay took a flier on another first round draft pick in Andre Dillard. His impact was minimal at best.

I don't know how much Simmons has to offer, but it's a low-risk signing and hope springs eternal. This is his third team, so if he is ever going to make a significant impact the NFL and get that big contract, the time is now. I wish him all the best, but I will not be shocked if he ends up as a back-of-the-roster afterthought.

Bauns can still happen. The right scheme. The right chemistry. The right coaching. And things just click.

Yeah, he sure gets a lot of notice on our site for a guy who signed for so little and hasn't played well for 4 or 5 years.

He was drafted 8th overall, and that will get some people excited. He has failed with two other teams, so that must also be taken into consideration.

I'll be as thrilled as anyone if he suddenly realizes his potential in Green Bay, and Jeff Hafley did pretty well with a defense that many thought would be mediocre at best. This is a good spot for Simmons and no doubt factored into his decision to come here. It's a low-risk signing with a potential for a huge upside, so it is definitely the gamble. I'll be rooting for him, but realistically this could go either way.

Realistically, imho, is that, like Dillard, it's a nothing burger.
This will indeed be the most likely outcome, but again it costs us next to nothing and there is pretty much only upside here. Simmons has been bad, but if nothing else he has ELITE (like, 99.9th percentile) physical traits, so there will always be a hope that in the right environment someone can turn coal into diamonds... It's like they say in the NBA how "you can't teach tall" - teams will almost always be willing to take a shot on guys who are 7'+ on attributes alone. And that's probably the part that keeps people talking - he still possesses the same raw traits that made him a top-10 pick. Heavy odds suggest he won't be an impact player for us either, but might as well take the shot
