Packers had a huge hole at Safety. This was a strange abundance of top safeties available in FA this year, and I don't think that is a coincidence. I think Gute saw it coming and didn't panic by extending marginal players.

Who is Brandt? I can't find anyone by that name in Packers management.

I'm assuming he meant Russ Ball but as an old fogey he remembered Andrew Brandt who had a similar position a few years back.
