Thoresen joins the Oilers' organization from the European ranks, where he played for teams in Norway, Sweden and Austria. The 5'11", 188 pound centre from Oslo, Norway played the last three seasons with Djurgardens iF of the Swedish Elitserien and the 22-year-old scored 17-19-36 with 44 PIM in 50 games in 2005-06.
He has also played for EC Salzburg of Austria, Storhamar IL of the Norwegian Eliteserien and Morrum GolS.
Thoresen has represented Norway on the international stage as a member of his country's teams at both the IIHF World Championship and World Junior Championship. He was a member of Team Norway at the 2006 championships in Latvia and was named Norway's player-of-the-game in their loss to Canada.
Thoresen also played junior hockey in Canada, spending two seasons in the QMJHL with both Moncton and Baie Comeau. He scored 30-43-73 in 60 games with Moncton in 2001-02 and broke the century mark with Baie Comeau in 2002-03 with 33-75-108 in 71 games.
