On second thought, I think Barclay makes the roster and either Datko goes on the practice squad or Wells is cut.
The only other change is I think Terrell Manning makes the roster as an ILB. I wouldn't risk cutting him and
trying to resign him to the practice squad. TT must have seen something he likes about him to move up in the
    draft.

I'm not a big EDS fan, but he did play well last year when called upon and he is currently our backup center.
One thing I've never understood is the long snapper position. You would think the starting or backup center
could handle those duties instead of wasting a roster space on a niche position, but every team does it and Goode
is probably one of the better LS in the league.

I don't think Jones is goping to make it at LB for even one game. He's shown nothing in preseason. I'll take Francois or even Walden over him.

I don't see them keeping three QB's active. Coleman to PS. I see them picking up a veteran QB.

There is no reason to keep Driver. has not done a thing in preseason. NFL is a business. Loyalty only goes so far. Too many younger players that have an upside to them. Driver does not. He's a great person. His time has come and gone.

I said the same thing when he was on DWTS, when they put him on the roster, I figured he was here to stay.

It will not let me edit my post so I'll do it this way. ^
Watched the game again and Borel is not going to make this team unless there's an injury. So I went with Gurley.

We have scrub G/T prospects. MD Jennings is going to be one of our safety when Woodson is roaming. We need him much more than one of our back offensive linemen.

Here's my updated roster guess before the last scrimmage/exhibition/practice "game":

QB (2): Rodgers and a veteran pickup. Coleman to PS. Maybe this is more a hope than analysis since McCarthy has said Harrell has improved each preseason game and Rodgers says they're confident in Harrell. That info is from the link below as is this: Over the past two games Harrell has led 15 drives and those drives have resulted in more points for the other team than for the Packers. http://espnmilwaukee.com/corp/page/08%2F26%2F12_Remember_5_questions%3F_Now%2C_5_answers/1911?feed=2 That indicates to me Harrell has regressed but of course I'm not McCarthy and he knows one hell of a lot more about it than I do. IMO the backup QB has to be good enough to lead the team to a .500 record and I don't have any reason to think Harrell could do that. If Rodgers misses so much time that doesn't get 'em to the playoffs or if he misses playoff games they aren't winning a title anyway IMO. (And - just my unpopular opinion - that's the case even if the backup is named Matt Flynn.)

RB (3): Benson, Green, & Saine. Starks to IR and Tyler to PS. Rather than just release him I'm guessing Starks spends the year on IR which would mean he has one more chance to get serious about his NFL career and one more shot at attempting to stay healthy for an entire season. However, it is "just" a turf toe and even though its taking a while to heal they may keep Starks at the end of the 53 - he's not eligible for the PUP list.

FB (1): Kuhn. He’s versatile and can backup at RB in a pinch.

WR (6): Jennings, Nelson, Cobb, Jones, Driver, & Gurley. Gurley is just a guess – could be one of the others like Borel or Boykin but none of them have grabbed that last spot. Another guess: Dale Moss to PS. If they decide to keep an extra player at another position (like Starks), Gurley or whoever they view as the #6 WR is the most vulnerable IMO. None of them have done enough to earn the spot IMO.

TE (4): Finley, Crabtree, Taylor, & Williams. I hope Quarless ends up on IR to give him a full year to get fully healthy.

OL (9): Newhouse, Lang, Saturday, Sitton, Bulaga, Dietrich-Smith, Wells, Barclay, Sherrod. It looks like they may think Sherrod will be ready before 6 weeks into the season so they'll add him to the 53 instead of PUP him. Barclay is getting good press from a couple of spots, including McGinn who I respect so he's my guess of the underwhelming group of youngsters. Datko to the PS. I still would rather see another vet added but if they don't PUP Sherrod I doubt it happens.

DL (6): Raji, Pickett, Worthy, Daniels, Wilson, & Muir. Retain Neal’s rights through his suspension on the Reserve/Suspended list and he replaces Wilson or Muir when he returns.

LB (9): Matthews, Perry, Hawk, Smith, Walden, Moses, Francois, Lattimore, & Manning. I'm not sure if the rule about making the roster for the first game guarantees an entire year of salary or not (does it matter if the player is a vested veteran?) but I'm including Walden in the 53 and guessing they'll go with 52 for game one.

CB (6): Woodson, Williams, Bush, Hayward, House, Shields. I switched Woodson to CB just because he'll spend most of his time at CB, not safety.

S (4): Burnett, McMillian, Jennings, & Levine. Richardson to PS. McMillian has a chance to grab the safety spot opposite Burnett in the sub packages. He loves to hit and that's the kind of safety I love to watch. Levine leads the secondary in tackles.

Specialists (3) Crosby, Masthay, & Goode.

found this on practice squad players

    http://www.get2theleague.com/explaining-the-nfl-practice-squad-rules/

    2. You can be on a practice squad for a third year only if the team you’re with during that third season maintains at least 53 players on their Active/Inactive Lists (combined) during your time with the team.
(note: The “active list” is the game day roster of 45 players. The Inactive list are players that are made inactive on game day so the team can get down to 46 players.)

I was less than impressed with Borel on the field last game. In fact I wanted it to be a hockey game and I could have pulled his jersey over his head and shoved a stick through his throat and it would have come out of his his mouth! I'm not saying', I'm just sayin'

My OL comment was made under the assumption Sherrod would go to PUP, as noted in the original post. Since he was not PUPed, he's my 9th. OL.

Woodson and Bush are both safety swing men, which provides flexibility in the event of injury. The only argument I could make for keeping 10 DBs is if House is expected to be sidelined for a while. I'd give the edge to Richardson over Jennings or Levine for the last spot.

The only change I'd make to my original list (which was HyponGray's list with a couple of changes) would be to move Sherrod from PUP to active and cut one additional player to get us to 52 instead of 53. With Walden coming off suspension after week 1, there's no point in paying some linebacker a full season salary just to sit on the game day inactive list for one game. My guess is So'oto would be cut to get us to 52. There should be no problem in going with 52 since it does not look like we have any 3rd year guys going to PS (see longtermfan's post #37 above).

I'll remain the lone voice saying we'll go with 5 WRs. We'll PS 2 of the youngsters...none of them is SO talented that losing them would be material. If we do keep 6, that will tell me there are management doubts about signing Jennings next season.

I've noticed that alot of people don't like Coleman or Manning. Who here actually expects them to clear waivers? Does potential outweigh production in such cases? well down to the knitty gritty.

    Rodgers Harrell Coleman
    Benson Green Saine Kuhn
    Finley Williams Crabtree Taylor
    Jennings Nelson Jones Cobb Driver
Newhouse Lang Saturday Sitton Bulaga Wells EDS Datko Sherrod
Pickett Raji Wilson Worthy Daniels Muir Merling
Matthews Smith Hawk Perry Moses Walden* Francois Lattimore Jones
    Williams House Bush Hayward Shields
    Woodson Burnett McMillian Jennings
    Crosby Masthay Goode

Suspensions: Walden 1 game, Neal 4 games
    PUP: Quarless Zombo
PS: Tyler Boykin Ross Guy Barclay So'oto Gurley Draheim

"Don't like" is the wrong phrase IMO as I, for example, think both have potential. I have Manning making the final 53 because he is more likely to be picked up by another team if placed on waivers IMO. Why? Because Coleman hasn't shown anything and would be "dead weight" for another team which would be years away from getting a contribution from him. OTOH, while Manning may begin the season on the inactive game day list, he could step in and contribute on STs right away as he learns the new team's system. Also, keep in mind about 700 players are going to be waived or put on IR before Saturday. BJ Coleman was a 7th rounder for a reason - if any team was 'hot on his trail' they certainly could have grabbed him with one of the 242 picks preceding where the Packers took him. I expect any team looking for a QB will be more interested in a vet backup.
