Well the latest Valuation of the Vegas Raiders has to have all NFL owners jumping for joy and out buying new mansions. In 1 year, the estimated value of the Raiders went from $7.9B to $11B.

In 2015 that poor franchise was only worth an estimate $1.43B.

Imagine if your assets grew at a rate of 669% in a little over 10 years.

Vegas more appealing than Oakland?

While I didn't look at every team, I think it is probably just the fact that every NFL Team grows in value each year. I mean why not? They basically print their own money, hold their respective cities hostage for tax money when needed, and pay an average salary of $5.2M to their employees (players).

But in the case of a few teams, the Chargers, the Raiders, the Cardinals, i.e. They have changed locations a number of times in the franchise history. Even moving back. How much was the value increase? And did they move again because that value could be in jeopardy? Red McCombs threatened to move the Vikings before Ziggy stepped in.
I still am amazed that in MLB, a one Charlie Finley, took a franchise that was once the Philadelphia A's which moved to Kansas City, a decent market, then took them to Oakland where they have been for 6 decades. The A's have the worst stadium and the worst location and have not had great attendance for 30-40 years. I wonder what their price would be.

I could be wrong but, Professional sports teams seems to move to other cities almost entirely for financial reasons. Primarily to secure highly lucrative, publicly-funded stadiums or to tap into larger, more profitable television and corporate markets.

They do. The most cataclysmic moves had to be the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants going to LA and Frisco at the same time. 3 MLB teams in the Big Apple seemed too many. Revenue had to be lost there. But no one condemns the moves. And NY got the Mets a few years later.

A's are moving to Vegas. They are in Sacramento (as of 2025 season) until their new stadium is built.

In terms of little brother/big brother syndrome, Oakland is to San Francisco as New Jersey is to New York. Oakland is a MUCH nicer place to be than NJ just outside of Manhattan.

Agree. I have visited both Oakland and New Jersey and I would much rather live in Oakland, like by a 100%.

Probably. But unlike most Cities with a population of 250,000 or more, it has its "good" and "bad" areas. So I guess your Oakland experience might depend on where you visit.

I doubt that. While there are exceptions in any city and this isn’t to disparage the good people in Oakland who offset that, Oakland is debatably one of the worst crime cities in the country. Pair that with CA having the highest regulations over every other state and it’s not a good recipe.

Tim Thomas at UC Berkeley did some homework. One major shift was Middle to Upper Middle Class migrated out of downtown during and post pandemic. They had the means and capacity to do that. The Low income “rental” demographic stayed intact. The City had some nice growth pure population wise, amid a major Statewide population exit. CA has literally went backwards in population recently and that’s a 180 degree reversal from a decade + ago. Nevada, Texas and Florida make up a large % of their lost census.

He makes and strong insinuations without actually saying it but he essentially said he was tasked with finding HL options for a Football City. He recommended KC after lunch and did it from the office adjacent to Hunt and it took him about the time to eat a half sandwich (I don’t recall what he had for lunch I’m making that part up but you get the jist of it). It’s so unbelievable it’s actually believable. HL was very corky you’ve got to read it it’s a short book.
I won’t get into possible ties with MLK jr or JFK etc.. but I’ll just say Curington made it obvious what he was hinting with first hand accounts.

Well, the Dallas Texans obviously were competing with the new Dallas Cowboys and playing in a small market. This was before the Civil Rights Acts and trying to attract black athletes to play and travel to southern cities was very difficult in any sport. KC was still segregated in 1963. The Dallas Texans had just won the AFL championship.
