Sorrel is an elite athlete. He scores high on every test. For a guy that weighs 260, he ran a 4.68 40. His broad jump was over 10 feet. He certainly has the size and athleticism to excel at edge. Now the question is if he can develop into a quality pass rusher.

Good to hear the great reference. I like what I seen. From memory, 6'3. 256. 4.68/40 28 reps on bench, which is tough... 34" vert.... Pretty good burst, judging from that....

I'd like to see what a guy like that in at ilb, on running downs... See if he can develope a mediocre pass def... And give us a great blitz option, with a couple DTs in front of him, and a 5 yd running start... Could be devastating. Definitely solid run support. He seems to be a play maker... Might be worth a try in training camp.

I always like to keep an eye out for a poor man's Brian Urlacher. Strong against the run. And pass rushing ability with big dominant DTs in front.

Freaking love this pick!!!! You guys have seen me share on him!

Massive leader, edge rusher who upped his pressure and win rates annually.

Could end up my favorite pick honestly!

Green Bay gets a guy still sitting in the green room with pick #124.

Amazing.

I'm very happy for the young man.

He is NOT an off ball linebacker brother.

And a cover corner or two...

Last year without Jaire we held up, now that same room essentially plus Hobbs and Jaire already better…plus King and Hadden still hovering…

If Jaire is staying I wouldn’t be shocked if we don’t draft anyone.

:)JJ Pegues. He plays TE, iDL, Edge, RB, PK and in a pinch perimeter CB. (Its quite a pinch when he rubs against you) Matter of fact they call him their extra shallow version of Cover 3 because he covers so much ground like 3 people in 1.

So he talked to the crowd, after the pick, he is friends with Golden, was staying with him in a hotel. So they asked him if he wanted to come to the draft... and low and behold, we drafted him too. He was so excited to be a Packer

I gotta say, as I sat there watching the board and the Packers pick at #124 approaching, I was excited to see Jack Sawyer still available. Of course though, who gets drafts Sawyer? The damn Steelers at #123!! I actually like the Steelers, but man they seem to grab players in drafts, right before the Packers pick, that I am hoping the Packers draft. They did the same think in Round #1 with the selection of Derrick Harmon at #21. Then there is the Packer Fan Nightmare of the 2017 draft, when TT could have drafted TJ Watt at #29, but chose to trade out of Round 1 and take Kevin King at #33 and Vince Biegel at #108 with the pics that they received in the trade.

I think Jack Sawyer, selected 20th in Round 4, is going to end up being one of the steals of this draft.

Sawyer's nickname is T Rex. It's not because he's a moster it's due to his really short arms. Since he's playing a position where he needs to rush the passer, those short arms are quite a liability.

What do they call Melvin Ingram? His arms are shorter than Sawyers. Maybe if his arms were each an inch longer, he'd be an even better player. However, to label him "quite a liability" because his wingspan is 2/3 of an inch less than Nick Bosa's, a bit much IMO.

I'm not great at math but Bosa's are 33 and Sawyer is sub 32 at 31.75.

Sawyer's arms are tiny by good edge typical traits...I think he might make it in the NFL but it's an outlier trait that I hated keeping him in the top 100 because odds said he likely won't be a solid contributor over the course of his rookie deal...but his football smarts kept him there for me.

One thing Sawyers shorter arms didn't impeded him from having was 59 tackles, 9 sacks, 3 FF's, and 6 PBU's in 2024. Some guys are just football players, and have great football instincts, to make up for any limitations they might have.... I'm 5'8", was...I repeat, was 140lbs, and only 28 inch arms, in college and led my intermural football team in sacks with 11 on our way to the Championship in 1988. :coffee:

But maybe Bosa has enough talent that an inch or two doesn't really matter as much. "Nick Bosa" is a tough standard to meet.

I really like Sawyer, and would not have minded drafting him. But only if Sorrel was already off the board; between the two of them, I think we got the far better prospect overall. At least from what I have seen and read. I think we got a freaking steal in the 4th.

RAS of something like 9.3, for a guy his size? The man is a beast.

If he goes on to have a solid career, he's going to be an enormous fan favorite.

He's such a huge NFL fan and draft afficionado, he brought his family to Green Bay to share the draft experience, not having any clue where he was going to be picked - much less knowing that he was going to go to Green Bay! He sat in that Green Room for 3 days. He was the last player left in the green room; every other player had already been picked or gave up and left. A projected likely Day 3 pick, he stayed there all by himself for the whole 3 days, not even his family with him, just patiently waiting for his moment.

And when that moment came, he stepped up on the stage and was welcomed by tens of thousands of hometown fans, the last man out of the green room. That's a Disney moment.

He is gonna be sooooo loved!!!! Every Packer fan will be crazy for this guy. Gutekunst doesn't dare cut him.

Interesting we should pick this up. I pick a player every so often and watch a game or some highlights or read ip on scouting reports or such. I fell asleep last night watching film of him. I hope it’s not an indicator! Let’s hope the Soil ain’t Barryn!:roflmao: (Truly I was exhausted). He’s a dynamic player.

Anyway. Noticed a few things of my own. Sorrell has good shed techniques when engaged with OL. HE usedvs string chop in many instances and instant separation. Yes even against other drafted players from college.

He’s also got near elite change of direction. He’d be floating one direction seeking the Edge and then just make a cut on A dime like a RB would. Shooting into the backfield. Then his short area burst to the ball caught opponents off guard which resulted in disruption or a Tackle well into the backfield before the play or blocks developed. Very aware of where that ball is like Preston was. Actually smaller version of a young Preston Smith is a Packer comparable imo.
I’m not sure he’s elite on any one category. But Barryn is a really good football player that we highly likely had a RD3 grade on.

Another thing that jumps off the stat sheet. 11 TFL on 44 combined.
25.0% TFL rate (imo “near elite)

Didn’t Jahdae But we got us 2 Really Good Longhorns

Agreed he was a steal in the draft. And it starts out well as a feel-good story, with him in the green room on day 3, doing a Lambeau Leap, and just cementing himself as a fan favorite.

All that aside, he's a good pick, a great value, and I expect he'll have a lot to contribute.

28 bench reps at 225 lbs is usually considered excellent for much stronger D and O linemen. 28 for an Edge/LB type is incredible.

I agree with you that he could see reps at iLB. Hafley will have the ability to move him around anywhere in the backfield, and even off the line on blitzes. A lot to like with this guy.
