Preview http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=660255 Line: Giants by 1. Series record: Packers lead, 28-22-2. Last time they met: The Giants won, 14-7, in Week 4 of the 2004 season. Brett Favre was knocked from the game with a concussion in the third quarter. The Packers' medical staff then forced Favre to stay on the sideline. The Giants' Tiki Barber tied the game on a 52-yard TD run and then Kurt Warner gave the Giants the lead on a 4-yard TD pass to Jeremy Shockey with 12 minutes left. FIVE THINGS TO WATCH 1. NO ELI: Giants quarterback Eli Manning is expected to miss a month after suffering a slightly separated shoulder in the Giants' season-opener. That will force Jared Lorenzen, the biggest quarterback in the NFL, into action. Lorenzen is 6-foot-3, 285 pounds and his nicknames include "Hefty Lefty" and "The Pillsbury Throwboy." More important, Lorenzen has appeared in just three games in his four-year career and Green Bay's defense figures to give him fits. 2. HARRIS VS. BURRESS: Green Bay cornerback Al Harris has shadowed No. 1 receivers for three years now. New York's Plaxico Burress will be one of his greatest tests yet, though. Big, strong, physical and fast, Burress has all the tools. Can Harris hold up? 3. RUNNING UPHILL: Green Bay managed just 46 yards against Philadelphia, its second-lowest figure in Mike McCarthy's 17 games as head coach. Can the Packers solve their ground woes, or will they be one-dimensional all year? 4. SPECIAL SHOWING: Green Bay's special teams have been awful for two years now. But they were the biggest reason the Packers beat the Eagles, as Green Bay recovered two fumbled punts and kicker Mason Crosby played hero with a 42-yard field goal with 2 seconds left. Can such performances continue? 5. EASY TARGETS? New York's starting cornerbacks of Sam Madison and R.W. McQuarters have seen their better days. Dallas' Tony Romo went to work on them and the rest of New York's secondary last week. Brett Favre and Green Bay's passing game should certainly have similar opportunities. THE MATCHUPS QUARTERBACKS The Giants suffered a colossal blow if they indeed lost QB Eli Manning to a slight shoulder separation. Manning was sensational in New York's season-opening loss to Dallas (28 of 41, 312 yards, 4 TDs). The Giants will instead go with Jared Lorenzen, a fourth-year player who's thrown just four career passes. The 285-pound Lorenzen is a left-hander who is also the biggest QB in football. RUNNING BACKS The Packers' running game was non-existent vs. Philadelphia, accounting for just 46 yards on 17 carries (2.7). The Giants don't appear as though they'll miss Tiki Barber, who retired after last season. Derrick Ward stepped in for injured starter Brandon Jacobs Sunday and accounted for 116 total yards and one TD. ADVANTAGE: Giants. RECEIVERS Green Bay's group couldn't spread the field vertically against the Eagles and is likely to struggle doing so all season. Plaxico Burress (8-144-3 TDs against Dallas) will be the best wide receiver on the field Sunday. The Packers don't have a tight end close to Jeremy Shockey's level. ADVANTAGE: Giants. OFFENSIVE LINE Much was made this summer about the growth of Green Bay's young offensive linemen. Against the Eagles, though they made little happen in the run game and allowed four sacks. Left tackle David Diehl was the Giants' major question mark this summer. But he and the rest of the unit were outstanding against Dallas as New York piled up 438 yards of total offense. ADVANTAGE: Giants. DEFENSIVE LINE Green Bay's deep and gifted bunch sacked Donovan McNabb just once in the season-opener. But Umenyiora is likely out with a knee injury and Strahan is still rounding into form after sitting out all summer while mulling retirement. The tackles are so-so. ADVANTAGE: Packers. LINEBACKERS Nick Barnett was a tackling machine vs. Philadelphia. Brady Poppinga was solid in pass coverage. Giants MLB Antonio Pierce is a Pro Bowl quality player, but the group is a major work in progress. Mathias Kiwanuka is converting from DE to SLB and can be exposed. ADVANTAGE: Packers. SECONDARY Green Bay's group held up well against Philadelphia, despite Al Harris leaving for a stretch with an elbow injury. Burress will be one of their greatest tests of the season, though. New York allowed 345 passing yards against Dallas. Sam Madison and R.W. McQuarters, New York's starting cornerbacks, looked old and slow against the Cowboys. ADVANTAGE: Packers. SPECIAL TEAMS The Packers recovered two fumbles on punt returns - including one for a TD by Tracy White. K Mason Crosby also went 3 for 3 with a 53-yard field goal and the game-winner with 2 seconds left. Giants K Lawrence Tynes has made 78.9% of his career attempts. Sinorice Moss and McQuarters are dangerous returners and P Jeff Feagles is going strong at age 41. ADVANTAGE: Packers. COACHING Tom Coughlin is 25-24 in his four seasons in New York and squarely on the hot seat. He's loathed by many players. Green Bay's Mike McCarthy is 9-8 and has won five consecutive games. ADVANTAGE: Packers.
