Once again it was a team effort, but an effort in the wrong direction by the Green Bay Packers. Penalties at the most inopportune times and costly turnovers led to a 26-24 loss to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday at Lambeau Field.

Both teams sprinted to early scores. After what appeared a bad omen on an Ahman Green fumble during the first play of the game, the Packers rallied with an 80-yard drive.

On third and 6, Donald Driver caught a pass from Brett Favre, sprinting past two defenders to a 42-yard touchdown. It was the 50th game with a catch for Driver, and after Ryan Longwell’s extra point, Green Bay led 7-0.

Not to be outdone, Cleveland mimicked the Packers’ opening drive success. The Browns had a lot of help though.

Linebacker Nick Barnett assisted Cleveland when he was saddled with a pass interference call in the end zone. Then, on first-and-goal from the 1 yard line, Trent Dilfer threw the first of two touchdown passes to tight end Steve Heiden.

Later in the first quarter, Daylon McCutcheon picked off Favre and Cleveland took advantage with a 21-yard field goal by Phil Dawson for a 10-7 lead. Another field goal by Dawson in the second quarter, this time a 39-yarder, propelled the Browns to a 13-7 lead.

After a halftime ceremony featuring the retiring of Reggie White’s number (92), Gary Baxter picked off Favre in the end zone. The Browns transformed the turnover into a scoring drive in 16 seconds.

Dilfer threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Braylon Edwards, but a blocked extra point created a 19-7 lead at the end of the third.

But Green Bay rallied in the fourth quarter. With less than six minutes remaining, Longwell kicked a 34-yard field goal, reducing the Browns lead to nine.

Forcing Cleveland to punt on the following possession, Favre led the offense in a 13-play, 96-yard scoring drive. He found Robert Ferguson in the end zone on a 19-yard strike with less than four minutes remaining.

However, the Packers’ defense failed at stopping Cleveland, surrendering a 62-yard touchdown throw from Dilfer to Heiden.

Green Bay would score once more in the final seconds on a four-yard pass from Favre to running back Tony Fisher before a failed onside kick sealed the a Browns’ victory.

Favre celebrated, if you can call it that, two new milestones in the loss. He became the third quarterback in NFL history to pass for more than 50,000 yards. He also now owns the single stadium record for most touchdown passes, with 181.

I certainly hope that it won't be 0-3 next week, but if it is, I guess we will just have to live with it. This is so disappointing. The only satisfaction of today is that the queens lost by a lot more than the Pack did.

I am looking at a 5-0 start right now... Maybe TT should consider seriously into firing Sherman by then,,,, Id rather have Bates as interim HC than keep watching Srmy and Rossley call the plays with no guts at all, I am very dissapointed now with the way this team is doing things..
