That first Packer TD (fumble recovery and TD return) wouldn't have been a TD today, under the "catch rule". I don't believe Joe Washington actually made the catch.

shhh. You’re acting like a Hogette! This was the Offspring of that 1983 campaign. The Hog Nose became a staple that decade and it actually brought them luck.

Goodbye Dukes of Hazard and Boss Hog…. Hello Hogettes!

"Everythings fine with Devine" I remember the bumper stickers. What Viking fans call the glory days (1970's) of the Packers. At least for us.
We call them the gory days. I remember those "Everything Fine with Dan Devine" bumper stickers also. And I remember thinking what's so fine about it? And there were a lot of "The Pack is Back" bumper stickers too. In fact, I think you still might see some of those around. You can't keep a good slogan down, I guess. But they're weren't back, not until the mid '90s.

Goodbye Dukes of Hazard and Boss Hog…. Hello Hogettes!
Okay, useless Trivia. The actor who played Boss Hogg on The Dukes of Hazard spoke 12 languages other than English. 6 fluently and 6 conversationaly. Because of this, he was in Army intelligence during the Korean war.

That’s incredible. Especially because he played essentially a lazy slob on that show. That’s how he was portrayed was the leader of the idiots.

Doesn't matter if he does or not. As long as he has a good defense and doesn't make stupid mistakes. Brady won 2 Super Bowls before he passed for 4,000 yards and had more than 30 TDs.

But it doesn't mean I'm wrong. Go back and take a good look at the teams that have won the Championship/Super Bowl over the years. They almost all have one thing in common. A good defense and a good QB. But the QB gets the credit. In the last two years, the Chiefs have been in the Super Bowl. And people think it's Mahomes. Yeah, the 15th-rated offense in the league will get you there. Really? Since 1990 the Packers have had a top 10 offense in scoring 22 times. And yet the only years they won the Super Bowl were when their defense was 1 and 2.

Brady never won a Super Bowl with a defense ranked lower than 8 in the league in points. Patriots had a top 3 offense 16 times in their existence. How many times have they won the Super Bowl with that? Once, when they had the top defense. Now, they have had the top 3 defenses 11 times, 3 Super Bowl victories. Pittsburgh, 20 top 3 defenses 5 Super Bowls. And you can do this with any team that has won the Championship/Super Bowl. The QB gets the credit because he is the "Face" of the team. But no QB is going to win the Super Bowl without a good defense. I don't care who he is.

You give me how many points a team will give up per game during the year, and I'll predict their record. And I'll be within 2 games of being right.

On another note, in their prime, between Brady and Starr, I'd take Starr any day of the week over Brady. Brady goes down as a Great QB. But I firmly believe that Starr was a much better QB.
Bro, I'm 100% kidding. I thought Caleb could overcome Eberflus and everybody else last year so maybe JJ will be good enough. I was just busting chops my guy.

Another thing that’s more significant in team roster impact than its being given credit. Thats the retirement of Detroit’s Center, Frank Rignow. Detroit just lost 20 years of experience between RG and OC. Both being Starter + level (Zeitler) to All-Pro 2 level (Rignow) are 2 punches that both landed and stunned Detroits jawbone. The only advantage is it didn’t happen like losing Bak happened to us during end of season without time to react. It’s still significant to lose one of the best OL on your team though. While Detroit should get Dan Skipper back, they could have THREE new position changes on their OL in 2025.

They are listing:
Christian Mahogany at LG
(75 career snaps)
Tate Ratledge at RG (0 NFL snaps)
*drafted #57 overall, 2025

Detroit was fortunate to sign Graham Glasgow back from Denver. Now Glasgow was a #95 overall pick by Detroit who did play 1 year at Center before going to Denver and mostly played Guard in Denver with C backup duty. He played LG last year but is the most obvious choice at Center. He’s a good Starter, but he’s not Frank Rignow either. That means they regressed slightly at Center and have moved 2 new players at both Guard spots.

Now I’m not suggesting they’ll crumble, but if I’m MLF I’m testing that interior with the same intensity that Love got last year multiplied by 2. Goff better be ready to release that ball in 1.9 sec or faster because Im stunting those 3 spots with everything I have game 1. Im playing full court press and jamming WR and TE using my strength at Slot and SS and coverage LB’s to greet the screen behind LOS. Those interior Detroit players will see more Pass Rush than they’ve seen in their collective lifetimes starting Play 1
Game 1 Quarter 1 we set the tone for 2025 by giving those 3 interior Detroit Players absolute fits.

Then I’ll bringing my best Pass Rushers in fresh to start Qtr2. It Detroit was uneasy in the stomach coming into GB, it’ll be much worse trying to scramble to make Halftime adjustments.

Jared Goff is one of the 3 QB's (Cousins & Burrows) highlighted on Netflix's "Quarterbacks" series for 2025 out now. Very informative showing preparation & mindset of NFL QB's and the daily ups/downs & weekly beating they take.

Three things I remember so well from the era where the Packers weren't competitive. Charles Martin throwing McMahon to the ground after a play was over. Totally uncalled for and it hurt the Packers image for quite some time.

Next is the blocked FG attempt by Chester Marcol in the season opener in 1980. Marcol caught the ball off the block and ran 25 yards to the end zone to score the winning touchdown on opening day 1980 in Lambeau Field. It happened right in front of me.

Next is the Monday night game in 1983 where the Packers beat the Redskins 48-47 in what was the highest scoring game on a Monday night until just recently. It was one of those games where everyone left the stadium no longer having a voice and couldn't speak much the next day. It was an amazing game to watch.

Maybe the 48-47 game you're referencing was this one?

But the two most memorable games I've ever attended were the Ice Bowl and the 1961 NFL Championship game played at Lambeau Field between the NY Giants and Packers. The first championship game ever played in GB and the Packers slugged them 37-0. It was nearly as cold as the Ice Bowl but special in its own right for the championship it brought.

Lots of exciting game but these are things that stand out to me most often. They might not be the most important games in history, but they had something special attached to each of them.
In the 1961 Championship do you recall Ron Kramer slipping on his rear in the end zone after catching a TD? Besides the actual game itself I remember watching the halftime show with that lightly dressed majorette doing her thing on the field. She had to be cold. I could be wrong but I thought one of the songs they played was " The Twist, " which, of course, was a popular song and dance for a couple years then. I just recall my dad standing in front of the TV showing us how to Twist.

Voyageur goes back to the days of Johnny Blood.
That Johnny Blood was a good read! Surprised there hasn’t been a movie about its great material. The New Richmond native even played for my hometown “LaCrosse Old Style Lagers”. Love the story about him stealing a cab to give that girl a ride. Pretty funny.

Voyageur goes back to the days of Johnny Blood.
I've told the story before, but it bears repeating. My father played football for the Menominee Athletic Club. They played against the Packers. During his first season he had his leg broken and the doctors told him he should never play again.

After that my dad would travel down to Green Bay to watch the Packers play. He'd stand on the sideline and had at least two or three nice sized hip flasks in his pockets and various players including Johnny would walk by and have a swig now and then even during games.

My first encounter with a player was Jug Gerard. I met him at a family gathering in Marinette when he played with the Packers. It was 1950 or 1951 if I recall. So that's my first meeting.

The first game I remember was the Vikings at Packers, Nov. 6, 1966.
I remember it as well and did not like it. It was my birthday and the Packers lost. Our D spent most of the game chasing Frannie. He got away and kept running or finding someone open. 20-17 on a 4th quarter drive. The Packers lost only 2 games that year. This one by 3 points and another 21-20 in Frisco when Don Chandler missed a late, chip shot FG that would have won the game. 4 points from a perfect season. But the Pack got revenge against Fran and Co. weeks later with a 28-16 win at Met Stadium. This time they got to Tark and forced a crucial INT.

I don't remember any of the game. All I remember is that Packer fans in school were upset. And since I didn't really follow football at the time, I saw an opening. See, these kids had been teasing me for several years about my stuttering. I became an instant Vikings fan that Monday in school. Bragging about how "my team" beat the mighty Packers. And oh yeah, the teasing about the stuttering backed off after that. Still haven't figured out if the decision was part of it. Sure seemed like it at the time. It gave us something to talk about, I guess. So, Packer fans are the reason I'm a Vikings fan. I never switched teams. It was tough growing up in Appleton as a Vikings fan. Most of my family are Packer fans. And one cousin, OMG, is a Dallas fan. I think he's brain-damaged. Must have had the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck too long during birth.

I don’t have any quality stories like @Voyageur But! and I mean But!! Coming home from a game at Milwaukee Co stadium early 1980’s these girls were Mooning us on the highway just after leaving on our way back to LaCrosse. My Step brother and I were young teens in the back of My step dad’s Grand Marquis when it started. Eventually my Step-Dad Dave heard us chuckling in the back seat and figured it out. He then started quietly pacing their car (it was noticeable) so we could get a better look! I swear it’s true! My Mom had absolutely no idea what was going on or maybe pretended she didn’t notice. We paced that car for a good ways down the highway, it was pretty funny.

I know I’ve told that one before but it’s absolutely worth baring again :coffee:Good times!

As I ponder the season more and more. There’s a constant reminder that very rarely does an NFL team stay stagnant as far as scoring on O or D or even Teams performance. That goes for our opponent also.

That said I have a hard time imagining The Vikings and Detroit combine for 29 Wins. I do give Campbell and O’Connell credit for leading some pretty good Teams to quality seasons recently.

As far as Chicago with all the $$$ spent in FA ($89Mil is signing bonus alone #4)and some crafty draft maneuvering for a bunch of nice Day1-2 selections, there’s just too much talent there to remain around 5 Wins. Chicago just went all in across the 2025-2026 seasons) Even with a new HC I suspect they’ll rise in the Win column. I don’t believe it’s going to spike hard, partly because Chicago has one of the harder schedules (roughly the #2 toughest tied with Detroit at .571) in the league.

I’m pretty confident betting on 1 of Detroit or Minnesota falling substantially. Substantial meaning 3+ games. It wouldn’t shock me to see that pair slip 5+ games combined Win total. Will know pretty early in season but something like these betting odds

Detroit 12.5
GB 11.5
Vikings 10.5
Bears 9.0

It wouldn’t shock me to see that pair slip 5-7 total combined games off their 2024 combined Win total. Will know pretty early in season but something like these betting odds

GB 11.5
Vikings 10.5
Bears 9.0

The tougher NFC N Division schedule should humble us a little. Speaking of which? How the heck did GB get lined up with Philly in consecutive seasons??GB will have played the Eagles at minimum 3 and possibly 4 times across 2 seasons. Nobody else in our Division saw that.

In many other seasons I’d say GB is poised to hit 12-13 Wins. That’s a hard prediction in 2025 and possibly too optimistic looking across our opponent list. I’m putting us similar to last season, maybe a slight tick better 11+
