The Packers had to decide whether or not they were serious about retaining him and at what price; and Daniels had to decide whether or not he wanted to remain in Green Bay and what his value was. In fact, Thompson and staff should get credit for signing him (and others) before they reach UFA status because doing so avoids a bidding war.The argument about whether or not Thompson should acquire more outside talent vs. retaining talent is certainly legitimate. But IMO categorizing Peppers’ acquisition differently than Woodson’s isn’t. And neither is differentiating the timing of Daniels’ signing.</blockquote>
