Thankfully this is thursday, or I wouldn't be reasonably sober.
First off, the fumble and the stopping on 4th down WERE THE BIGGEST PLAYS OF THIS GAME
I was soooooooooo wrong when I said this would be a defensive struggle.
I think we did better with the run and pass, and all the fears of our O-Line, not the best in the league but they looked good.
Happy for Donald Driver for tying the record, Aaron looked marveoules.
Our defense is rusty, but I think next week they will shape back up. There were at the least three passes that could have been intercepted, but they played it smart. I think by next week they will close up. They did one thing right, by not giving up 100 rushing yards to a team that abandons the run while they are doing good with it, and that's a good sign.
I am VERY upset about Tramon Williams going out injured.
I hate to complain and make the Saints fans sound like I am downing your team, but something has to change. I was hoping they would learn at least 1 of 2 things going into this season.
#1. With 3 active backs, Drew Brees should NOT have to throw 49 passes.
This was their problem last year, depending on Brees way too much. I love Brees, and while some of our defense was rusty, he did look great, but think back to when they lost to Seattle. Brees threw 60 passes in that game, he threw 49 in this game, and I think that's way too much. They run the ball great, and then they decide to go in heavy west coast style pass-almost-every-down offense, and it worked some what in this game, but still nothing has changed. 3 great running backs and they still want to throw 50 passes.
#2. Too much blitz, and not much coverage.
I praised them in preseason and while it's only one game into the season, Saints still look like the team that prides on turnovers, but don't give a damn about how many yards, points, and so on they give up. Adding Shaun Rogers don't look like a smart move. Saints are a blitz team, mad blitz but it can also burn you.
Overall the Saints had a chance to win this game. Payton's going for it on 4th down, was a BIG stop that would have crushed us. We had a hard time stopping them and that's why I think the 4th down stop and the early fumble is what won that game. One stopped them from putting up 3 (or even 7) and the other gave us 7, that helped us win it.
We got screwed bad on the punt downed at the 1.
No, we really did get screwed there.
There's going to be bad calls in every game, but that one, was BULL ****.
I won't complain too much with us winning, but that play hurt us, and gave the Saints momentum. Some people don't like Bush, but he played great tonight with a sack, and though he got screwed over with that play, he was on the ball doing a good job.
Our offense is very explosive. Grant looked good, but give it to Starks as our new premier back. I am also happy for #88's return, he looked awesome.
Props to the Saints for making it close, you guys are always a thrill to watch and I will have fun seeing you beat down the Bears as long as you keep that offense rolling like that. They are going to win a lot of games this year if they keep rolling on offense, but they need to try not to depend on Brees so much. They were running the ball very good, and then they would stop, and the next drive is a pass every down, it worked but they can't do that every game like last year when he had 22 interceptions.
Anyways, give our boys a big clap for breaking the record of most points scored by a Super Bowl champion on the season opener.
