OVERVIEW
The two-time team captain and member of the squad's Leadership Council was a "coach on the field" for the young Texas A&M offense in 2004. One of the team's finest athletes, Murphy earned 4x4 and Aggie Elite status during the offseason training program and set a school conditioning record with a 41

Apparently being ranked close to last in D in the NFL is something we are happy with...

you have to have some confidence in Jim Bates, ran a good defense in Miami...but then again they drafted defensive talent in Miami. A pass rushing defensive end/athletic linebacker to get to the QB, no pass rush. Still need a run stuffing DT, because Big Grady won't be around for that much longer, and Hunt took a step back--would've taken Antaaj Hawthorne at #89,

too many negative thoughts for one post, sorry for the ramble

although I'm not a fan of going WR here, I will say that I grew up inHouston and lived in College Station for three years. I keep up with Aggie football. Murphy is the best WR to comethrough there, even better than Fergie. At the very least, hopefully he can improv our return game. If he can play special teams both ways, that will allow Fergie to concentrate completely on WR. Again, I think we had more pressing needs in the 2nd round, but let's not forget that Terrance can help the team as well.

I started to follow A&M a couple years ago when I went there for a few weeks to visit a friend attending the firefighter school. It was absolutely unbelievable being at one of the games, never heard anything so loud in my life.

That's 100% why the entire Defensive Coaching staff was retained. You hit the nail on the head. I'm gonna take a short drive to 1265 Lombardi and pass them your contact info because they could really use your expertise.

Murphy sounds like a project that could turn into a Sterling Sharp with speed.
Now - there's a comment I hadn't thought of.... Sterling Sharpe?
You really think this guy can trim his bad habits down to such a point that he'd be thought of that way...... He'd have to figure out a way to not bobble the ball for those major interceptions & scores being mentioned... which was a highlight after the pick yesterday, btw! Sure - it looks like he has the speed - but he'd better learn how to sell his route, or he's never gonna last.

He's also pretty tough and strong. Hard to defend at the line of scrimmage and he's explosive but he's raw.

When was the last draft that the Packers didn't load up on projects?

Terrence Murphy
WR, Texas A&M
War Room analysis - The Sporting News
Murphy is a developmental prospect who won't contribute much to the Packers as a rookie. He will grow with Aaron Rodgers, and both quarterback and receiver will be in great position to help the team in 2006. Murphy is a big-time speedster and a downfield threat, but he is very raw with average hands. He needs to improve at the mental aspects of the game.

PRE-DRAFT ANALYSIS Hands: Has adequate hands, but can make spectacular catches. Fights the ball a bit when trying to catch passes at full speed. Grade: 6.6.

Patterns: Is smooth, and shows excellent change-of-direction skills. Must improve ability to read defenses and find soft spots in zones. Will make plays downfield because of speed and leaping ability. Grade: 6.5.

Run after catch: Is a legitimate threat because of great speed and explosive second gear. Makes defenders miss in the open field, and can run away from most defenders. Grade: 7.5.

Release: Does not get muscled around. Shows good quickness to escape jams. Grade: 7.0.

Blocking: Is strong, and has a good build. Works hard, and has developed good technique. Plays with good leverage, gets into position and works to sustain blocks. Is durable and tough. Grade: 7.2.

Bottom line: Murphy, a quarterback in high school, made a quick adjustment to wide receiver and was extremely productive. He lacks elite size and must become more consistent catching passes on the run. He has explosive speed and is a great athlete. He could develop into a fine No. 2 receiver and an elite kick return man. He needs polish but his speed, athleticism and upside potential will keep him in the third round.

Dan Pompei analysis
Great hands are his best quality. Can catch a bad pass. Will make spectacular catches. Has quick feet and can avoid defenders. Is big and fast. Runs good routes. Is fairly tough. Doesn't separate as well as you'd like. Can return kicks.

News
Happy with his sprints at the NFL Combine, Murphy skipped the 40 at A&M's pro day workouts. He performed well in quickness drills and leaps.
