It comes down to when possession is ruled. If the player is said to have possession as soon as the ball touches his hands, then it should have been a touchdown. Pollard did not grip the ball with his hands, catching it away from his body, however. Instead, he allowed the ball to hit his hands and with a smooth motion cradled it into his body. Before he brings the ball in securely against his body, his leg is out-of-bounds. The rules for control of a reception were revised (last year, iirc) stipulating continuous control of the ball (even requiring control after the ball has been taken out of bounds, if I'm not mistaken). IMO, Pollard cannot be fairly said to have had possession of the ball prior to going out of bounds. If not for instant replay, I'm a very unhappy fan today. :) That's the spirit! :) That's the NFL for you. The Bucs could have been 10-6 last year minus a few unlucky calls and with some competent placekicking. One thing's for sure: The Bucs will have to play better in order to keep winning. The defense is doing the job so far, but the offense needs to take better advantage of opportunities and turn the ball over less frequently (in Griese's defense, he may have suffered a concussion on a first-half scramble). The Bucs absolutely have to improve in order to make noise in the playoffs, assuming that we end up getting that far.
