1. Still searching: The 49ers may have suffered more off-season losses than any team in NFL history. Defensive end Justin Smith and linebackers Patrick Willis and Chris Borland retired. Free-agent defections included Pro Bowl offensive guard Mike Iupati, wideouts Michael Crabtree and Stevie Johnson, cornerbacks Chris Culliver and Perrish Cox, defensive end Ray McDonald and running back Frank Gore. And, standout outside linebacker Aldon Smith was released following his arrest for hit-and-run, driving under the influence and vandalism. San Francisco was in the 2012 Super Bowl and 2013 NFC Championship Game, but is miles away from that today.
