Any rationalizations of joint possession in the air are unequivocally wrong.
Hi everyone. I'm a Broncos fan, but just looking around the different forums to get a sense of the reactions out there. My sense is that everyone and their mother who aren't Seattle fans acknowledges that the NFL screwed up. I can understand the Seahawks rationalizations. I tried to rationalize with myself a few years ago why the Ed Hochulli screwup with Jay Cutler's "fumble" against San Diego wasn't actually a screwup. Eventually, I had to come to terms with the fact that I was wrong, and that Denver shouldn't have won that game. The gif video that "hawkfan" posted in the first page is rather irrefutable evidence of Jennings interception. The arguments otherwise are not compelling. As soon as Jennings catches the ball, it can be seen that Tate's left hand is touching the ball, and his right hand is on Jennings' wrist/arm, and subsequently is removed from touching anything (his right hand makes it around the helmet of Jennings, well away from any contact with the ball). The argument that his left hand touching the ball equates to possession is ridiculous. You cannot touch a ball while another guy grabs it out of the air and say that you possessed it. Jennings had two hands on it the whole way and brought it to his chest. The fact that Tate maintained his ability to touch the ball, and then wrapped his arms around it on the ground is irrelevant, and frankly, using it as an argument is just a sign of denial. It's like saying that if a mother is hugging a baby around her chest, and someone comes and puts their hand on the baby, the other person is now holding the baby (and by NFL logic, now belongs to them). Any rationalizations of joint possession in the air are unequivocally wrong.
