That’s really what was all through college. 32 Starts at LT and 38 total played at LT. Although the following analysis has been accurate thus far. The consistent aspect of his evaluation was he needs better footwork and hand placement, but his traits are strong. This write up was nicely done imo and consistent with his he’s been used in GB thus far.

I’m guessing the position switch to Guard and mixed either the elevation in competition levels humbled him a little. I fully expect him to develop as each year unfolds. It wouldn’t surprise me if he’s our Starting Guard through his Rookie deal. If we recall, Sean Rhyan similarly struggled early on, but then grew into a solid Starter. I think that’s Anthony’s path

Wow. The writer on one side of his mouth says he compared with the guy taken 6th in the 2020 draft and with the other side says 3rd to 6th round is where he should go. I like his size and build. Obviously I'll be rooting for him.

if you reread that Josiah didn’t say RD3-6. He says that’s what most experts are projecting. He actually says he’ll go earlier than projected. Then does his own summary. In Josiah’s summary he guessed Early to Mid Day 2 and that’s spot on to where he was picked. That’s likely 40-85 overall-ish and he was picked at #54. That’s a really good projection call.

When I see someone who can do better than consensus in a final draft guess in a particular player, I tend to draw in and listen to their opinion a little closer. Josiah is projecting Belton has huge room to grow and at Guard it’s almost a foregone conclusion that’s he’s going to be a Starter.

It’s also hard not to be impressed with Belton’s size. He’s built for the NFL at 6’6.0” 338lb. Now there’s no ? He has some wrinkles in his footwork and handwork to iron out. What I like is a common attribute he possesses that scouts picked up on. Belton was strong at anticipating and reacting to various Stunts and Blitz Manuevers in College. He’s a natural at understanding how the game is played but he just needs to refine his craft past a strong initial punch. Many NFL Defenders don’t stop after initial strike he’s got to have better finishing, but that’s where coaching is paramount imo.

Yes. Belton really just needs reps, he’s been yanked around some also out of need. I really think LG is his spot. He played 38 games with 33 Starts at LT and I think relearning opposite side is more challenging than people think. Yet then what do we do with Banks is the bigger issue? It’s like we’re forced to keep Banks at LG or risk learning new positions, so I get that. In a magic bottle If I could refund Banks contract id stick Belton at LG and Jager at RG. That Jager is going to start one day mark my words. That kid is a born interior OL.

Banks better step up in 2026 or he’s as good as “Hobbs” gone in 2027. I often wonder if his play at SF49ers was elevated because of him being recipient of good players on either side. His PFF grades were very pedestrian also when we signed him.
I think Jager Burton is a Highly adaptable Interior OL. AT pick #153 he was a relative steal and after reports of put him around an earlier RD4 OL grade. Maybe not a super high ceiling but definition of a high floor type.

IMO if Jager comes in at Center or Guard, either one he’ll never relinquish his spot. This draft might not produce ProBowl types, but it’s one of our stronger Drafts in that RD2-6 area for players who can be used near instantly if needed.

Belton got better as the season progressed. That's an accomplishment for a rookie. He's well established at RG.

@Heyjoe4 if they can refine Belton some this year at Pass protect? He’s really ideal in our run game. The Scouts say he has a devastating punch when used as a move blocker. If he hits a LB he’ll smooth lift them off their feet type pop and if he lands on you at 340lb? I’m guessing you’ll avoid him the next time. lol

I get the feel that Belton is a project, but anticipating once he gets confidence and stops thinking and starts playing? He’s has the size and strength to impose his will pretty regularly. Our smallest OL is Zach Tom and that guy is near All Pro level from a technical perspective.

I think Belton is going to surprise people this year. As for Banks, I agree with the philosophy that he benefited from the guys who played beside him. They made his game look better than it was. Zach Tom is the real deal. I see him as a lot like Jim Otto, who was the Raiders center for a long time, out of Wausau. Otto was undersized but played like a guy 40 to 50# heavier. I believe he weighed about 240#, even though they said he weighed more. Guys like Otto and Tom not only play the game physically but smart.

He spent his post-football days living in Auburn, CA. I know the area well. In fact that area was my second stop as a cop. I had a cousin living there in Meadow Vista, which is just up Highway 80 into the foothills. He knew Jim, and his daughter and one of his sons worked in one of his restaurants in the past. My cousin said he was a great guy, pretty much crippled up but had a great sense of humor and attitude about life in general.

They weren't really friends, more acquaintances.

Oh yeah and if he polishes his game as someone said, he’s a huge man at best 340lb and 6’6”. My hope is that Morgan excels at LT. If that happens much of the chips fall in place because it feels like the 3 interior OL all are in that Medium High Floor. Maybe not World Beaters, but all 3 could very well be average Starters. So I see our OL goes as Morgan goes. If he’s good? Both Tackles are strong and our interior 3 are a 1/2 TON blocking machine. Literally. 985Lbs.

I’ve always liked having a Bigger Interior package for those Goal Line and short yardage stands. As long as we don’t sacrifice athleticism, which we don’t.
