I took a break for the regular season about 5 years ago, you can look and notice no posts, no viewing, no checking scores, notta. I wished everyone blessings beforehand so not to appear it was passing judgement on anyone. I didbit for Spiritual Reasons to ensure it wasn’t my Master. I completely disappeared from here. I did Make a pact to visit Playoffs but more as a reward of sorts, I know now I could’ve easily extended that fast as I considered it but stayed my promise. I Never looked at the NFL 1 time. I agree it’s an addictive sport though, matter of fact that’s the whole reason I went on an NFL fast, I’m weird that way I’ll just eliminate something if I think it’s controlling me or becoming my God. I do it with Coffee. I do it with Media. I do it with Leavening. So it’s not as much the NFL as it is me mastering my body and brain as self discipline. Sometimes I’ll skip a free lunch while everyone attacks it like ravenous wolves. Mastery is really important for mental discipline imo.
I need a cup of coffee these days. Or so I believe.

The demand for NFL football is so high that fans will go to great lengths, and spend plenty of $$$, to see the games they wanna see. The NFL will only centralize broadcasting if it is in the best financial interests of the NFL.

I still think games played by the local team, home or on the road, will be free to view in the local market. I don't ever remember having to pay to watch a GB game from home.
I’m still about positive the NFL will exploit its fanbase until there’s a reset. I’m also about positive if just 50% of US fan base made a pact to go on strike in a given year? The NFL would go into sheer panic. Meaning WE feed the monster so really we can’t complain.

I also make up for it and drink an extra cup later. lol.

Leavening is the most amazing one. Stop eating any bread or starches or anything with Yeast for a 40 day period. When I error or eat something by mistake, add 2 days to the end is my suggestion. I actually feel 100% better when I do that. It’s a physiological change in my body imo. Thr belly goes away quickly. Especially if you drink a shot or two of quality, Extra ****** Olive oil before bedtime. It’s not just heart healthy polyphenols, I swear on my life it trims belly fat.

What is "Leavening"?

What you describe are just healthy habits for all of us, including us atheists. Balance in life is a good thing. Most addicts inherit the trait. It's very hard for them to say no to their "substance" of choice - which can be anything and multiple things.

Most of us do have the power of choice, or at least the ability to say "no" on occasion. I couldn't imagine not following a season of Packer football. It's not like I'm gonna get pulled over for DWAPF (driving while a Packer fan).

Not many things are truly impossible, but 50% of fans going on "strike" from the NFL in a given year is impossible. And to what end? What changes would they want from the NFL. Too vague.

I've switched to eating sour dough bread.

This is why drug dealers like to give out "free" samples to potential new clients. ;)

BTW, people tuning into "free" networks like FOX, CBS and NBC may think that the viewing experience is "free", but it really isn't. You are watching all those ads that are run during the game. You may not buy that specific beer or car that is being advertised, but you are paying the price of those expensive ads when you leave your house and become a consumer. You may drink "Generic Beer" because it costs a few pennies a can less than Bud, but do you think that the makers of that Generic Beer don't keep an eye on Buds price? When Bud raises their price to cover increased advertising costs on NFL broadcasts, guess what other beer raises their prices too?

The Economics of the NFL is a fascinating, as well as depressing, study. I have read some pretty detailed breakdowns of it all and I really wish someone would put together a 1-2 page bullet point article on just how much the NFL cost the average consumer, whether they participate by being a fan or not.

That’s the thing. I don’t think it would take anywhere close to that goal. I also think those that disagree or think a fan strike is impossible would also highly benefit from it.
I know for a fact that several years ago (just before the pandemic) that many fans dropped off. That was mainly the Colin Kaepernick Saga as they thought it was not a good forum to use his cause. I watched those numbers and I recall it floated around 10%+- but eventually level off lower but still between 5-10% direct viewership losses. The NFL eventually responded by raising pricing to recoup the losses. That call it 8% was very damaging short term, but not enough to make lasting change either. 16% ? Becomes problematic. 24% likely becomes highly destructive to the financials. Anywhere over 25%+ Sales and viewership decreasing in the U.S. alone (sustained losses across a season) would be catastrophic imo and I’m about 90% they’d want to talk to fan representation that it won’t increase the following year. More likely is everyone in the hierarchy of the NFL would first be unemployed. That would be the first condition. It’s amazing what losing jobs does to gaining attention and traction with a new
Employee. That’s all they are is Employees and not 1 is invincible.

I’ve watched the #1 Top trading Company on the Stock Exchange through the 1980’s fold up and disappear. I know because I worked there in the 80’s and 90’s and you wouldn’t have had 1 person believe you if you predicted its demise. I have witnessed the most powerful leaders and companies fold up like a deck of cards. I didn’t make up the saying. “small leaks sink big ships”

We made Walmart look tiny

In CC effort to increase profit margins, they similarly alienated their customer base by reorganizing Employee Compensation through a revised business model. It was catastrophic failure that still costs consumers today.

Honestly, I think the NFL would just try to figure out a way to extract even more money from the 50% of fans who remain.

Sounds very Lombardi like. I could never do it with coffee. Lambeau even gives out free coffee at those cold playoff games in January. Hope we get another.

Oh they’d have to try to. Although I think it’s highly unlikely we’d ever get that far. No company that size could even survive a sustained 1/4 loss of margin without a complete reorganization of their business model from the Top down. No owner is going to take the full brunt of financial losses. The NFL would be forced to renegotiate media contracts and players and coaching and staff and facility Contracts alike. IMO there’s zero 0% chance it’s just business as usual and just double the pricing. It would not take nearly as much as 50% losses to have an immediate and crippling effect.

I believe that’s one of the reasons they’ve went overseas. To try to create a more Robust Financial Model that doesn’t rely on the U.S. consumer. They’re spreading their client model in case 1 area struggles they can stay afloat longer. Similar strategy to a Mutual Fund.

Keep in mind. I’m not suggesting trying to eliminate the NFL. Some people get in an uproar over using strategies to keep the NFL honest in their monopoly. Again there’s already been financial litigation ongoing and into its past, so this isn’t some fictional topic. It’s already in motion. Fan involvement is only going to add to the ongoing heat the NFL is already experiencing. This isn’t Old schools idea this had been going on and increasing intensity year to year. Watch and see if nothing changes and thank me via the Wall Street Journal later. No company is invincible
