Mis was dominating thru 6 innings. Pitches 105 & 106 were both 103mph getting the inning ending K! Very impressive that he's still flame throwing at that point. Good to see the bats are re-awakening.

Besides his velocity, his newfound control on his cutter, his ability to strike out batters, his ability to get a lot of ground balls, the thing I like about Miz the most this season, his maturity. While he has pretty much had his way with opposing team this season, he has pitched himself into some jams. Last season, that seemed to be when he would implode and self destruct. Not this season, Murph is leaving him in there and he is pitching his way out of trouble.
Oh and that cutter he throws? It is newly refined and just devastating to batters. Clocking in at almost 100 mph with massive, sharp horizontal movement, the pitch acts as an unhittable "speed ladder" off his 105.5 mph fastball.
Is Miz Milwaukee's new Giannis of baseball?

If the Brewers are going to compete for the NL Pennant and an eventual World Series Title, they have to find a solution to their middle bullpen relief. Chad Patrick came in last night and totally choked. He, Grant Anderson and Jared Koenig are too inconsistent and thus very unreliable. With Woody back in the starting lineup, Drohan can pick up some of the slack, but it would be really nice to have more reliable mid-game pitcher.
The MLB trade deadline isn't until Aug. 3rd, so no need to panic. However, this is a another good Brewer baseball team, they just need to find reliable non-starters that can come in and pitch a couple of solid innings.

If we thought The Cubs were making it look easy against us? In other news the Cubs just absolutely destroyed The Padres (23-3). Their previous record single game was in 1995 (26-7) over 30 seasons ago. This still broke the franchise record of a 20 Run Victory (since being called the Chicago Colts)
The Brewers are still pacing 102 Wins as they quietly pass the Season Halfway mark (51%)

Looks like Logan Henderson will be back in the Brewer's rotation later this week. Woody needs to get right, Henderson needs to show he belongs up long-term. Trade deadline is a month away and I don't want any prospects leaving, if possible, to bolster the rotation.

Only time will tell I guess. They have already put him on the 15 day disabled list and there is talk of another surgery, which would probably mean he is lost for the remainder of the season. Lefty Brian Fitzpatrick just underwent Tommy John surgery and won't be able to start pitching again until months into next season.
While the Brewers have really had some bad luck when it comes to injuries to their Pitchers, it seems to by a systematic problem in baseball right now. Why? Pitchers are throwing at higher velocities, as well as trying to put more spin on the ball. This appears to put too much strain on their shoulders and arms.
Below are some of the issues:
- Maximum-Effort Pitching: Pitchers prioritize throwing as hard as possible and maximizing spin rate over pitching for contact. This extreme effort puts immense strain on arms.
- "Stuff" and Sweepers: Pitchers chase high-movement breaking balls, like the "sweeper," which exerts high levels of stress on the elbow.
- Year-Round Play: Youth and high school players participate in intense, year-round travel baseball rather than resting. Pitchers reach the professional level already carrying extensive wear and tear.
- Workload Management: Modern protective pitch limits might accidentally reduce a pitcher's arm conditioning, increasing injury risk when they are asked to throw max effort in shorter bursts.
Keep an eye on a Brewer trade for a starting pitcher before 7/31. I wouldn't mind seeing them do that, but I hope the amount of assets they have to give up isn't too much. Seems the only starting level pitchers available at the trade deadline are partial season rentals. Guys currently on losing teams that are due to become free agents in 2027. Their current team has no plan on resigning them and hoping to eek out some capital for the short term rental. Unfortunately, these are the guys that the big money teams grab. For they don't few them as just short term rentals, they view them as the pitcher to put their team over the competitive hump for a World Series run AND someone they will resign for big money.

Getting Henderson back helps, but as you pointed out, how much it helps will all depend on if he pitches effectively. I think Sproat is our 5th starter as of Woody's injury and Henderson's return. Gasser was sent back down to the rookie league on 6/30, but I think they bring him back after the All-Star Break.

As a Tigers fan, I want to thank you for Jacob Waguespack. Since we acquired him from the Brewers, he has pitched 13.1 innings in relief, and has a sub 2.0 ERA. Tonight 2 scoreless/hitless innings to close out the game, 23 pitches, 20 of them for strikes.

Luis Lara made his MLB debut last night in the 2nd game of the double header with the Cards. Man, that guy is fast! He went 1-for-4 with a walk, a run scored, and a two-run single. Nice to have another outfield option, especially with Lockridge now being moved to the 60 day DL.
An awesome sweep of a double header with their division rivals! Miz had me a little concerned in Game 1, giving up 2 early homeruns. However, he settled in and kept the game close enough for the Brewer bats to come alive and win the game.
Robert Gasser was downright spectacular in Game 2. That is the best I have seen the young talent pitch this season. He had 1 bad pitch (a cutter that didn't break down) for a 2 run home, otherwise, he was money for 7 2/3 innings. He is really coming along nicely!
Blake Perkins was optioned to AAA to make room for Lara.

Possible that WAG's was just the start of the Brewers/Tigers dealing before the deadline. If we do indeed trade Skubal, I hope it's to the Brewers, and not any of those big market teams... my NL team is the Brewers, and pitching wins championships. Yeah I doubt it happens. The Brewers won't pay Skubal what he is worth to keep him after 2026, thus he would just be a few month rental. One of the big market teams that really want him for 2026 and beyond, will probably offer the Tigers a lot more than the Brewers....should.

3 game series could prove very advantageous if they can steal 2 or 3 games. Starting with this Pirates series Milwaukee (currently) does not play an opponent over .500 until August 13th, when they head to the Dodgers. Winning this tougher series could really spark them across Q3 of the season as their competition level wanes a little bit. Then there’s a few tougher opponents to close out with the LA Dodgers, the Cubbies 2X and Braves etc.

Heading to Detroit to watch Skubal pitch on Sunday. My 2nd trip to see a game in the last two weeks. My best friend is a huge Skubal fan and he wants to see him pitch before he would end up getting traded. It very well could end up being his last home start, as a member of the Detroit Tigers. Playing the Phillies, and Zack Wheeler is starting for them... could be a 2 hr game, both guys don't walk anyone, and their WHIP is under 1.0
