I really like Jacobs overall. I think his time is going to be quickly running out though. I have always said that it's better to err on the side of moving on from a guy "too early" rather than "too late". It's better to be in a position where you're finding a replacement on your own terms/schedule rather than being forced into where you HAVE to replace a guy. There are a few different thresholds for running backs relating to age and carries (career, in a season, etc) that very, VERY strongly correlate with "hitting the wall" and Jacobs is coming right up on (or is already at or past) most of them. And usually when running backs hit that "wall" they fall off hard and fast. In a vacuum I would say the "right" move is to move on from Jacobs right now. Not saying that's what I would "like" for us to do, nor am I saying it is particularly feasible/realistic or a good priority-use of our limited resources. In reality, we will almost certainly ride it out for at least one more year with him. But I very strongly suspect we may find ourselves a year from now looking back and saying "yeah, we should've moved on last summer" or similar. Of course, our OL did not do him any favors (and who knows if they will next year either) but to me it looked like he was either A.) not fully healthy; B.) starting to slow down; or C.) a bit of both. Worth mentioning too that Jacobs has the biggest RB contract in the league (total value) and the 6th-highest per year. Such is the nature of the game but I don't know if he is a top-6 type of guy at this point. Like I said, I really like Jacobs. He works hard, he's a "tone setter" type of guy and a locker room leader. He shows urgency, toughness, fighter's mentality. That doesn't show up in the stat sheet and I appreciate that. But I think Father Time is probably going to catch up here pretty quick. Realistically I'm not sure we have the resources to move on right now (or at least like I said - it's not as big of a priority as other matters) but in a perfect world we probably call it.
