I'll start this one off. Studs: Randall Cobb - Caught most all of the passes thrown his way. Fought for extra yardage. Returned the punt for a TD, yes with a non-called penalty BUT after some BS calls against us. I feel like he really showed his future value to this team! 9 receptions, 77 yards. James Jones - Really showed that he has stepped up his game. He made a SENSATIONAL catch at the 2 yard line, but was called OPI. I think that he is going to be a real force this year. 4 receptions, 81 yards and a TD. Clay Matthews - He didn't have a ton of tackles, but he recorded 2 (well, 2.5 sacks officialy.) sacks and seemed to be a real force all day long. I think he was on his A-game today. Duds: Jermichael Finley - Dropped a ton of passes. He cost us at least one possible TD in a couple of first-down passes that were dropped. Yes, he scored a TD...and at least he did that correctly. Packers Defense - Missed tackles, couldn't stop the run or pass game all game long. Seriously, I thought last season would have taught them (and Finley) some real lessons. When Alex Smith starts looking like a major threat there are problems on defense. I thought we addressed our issues with a stellar defensive NFL draft. Mike McCarthy - I really love this guy. I do. However, I really have to ask where his head was this game. He hardly ran the ball at all. I understand that Benson didn't do amazing things with the ball when he got it, but with only 9 carries what do you expect? Why bring him in if you won't use him? We HAVE to get a run game going if we want to be successful. Also, where was Donald Driver? I don't think he was injured...that is a guy we need to be throwing the ball to, instead of Finley. Caught in the Middle: Aaron Rodgers - Sometimes he looked like 2010 and 2011 Aaron Rodgers, and other times he looked like someone was dropping Brett Favre pills in his Gatorade. He was over-throwing and underthrowing receivers. Throwing interceptions that were just...bad. I mean that pass went straight to Bowman. I know that Aaron isn't superman. I know he will make mistakes...and no I am not spoiled on last season, but come on. Not only was it a bad interception, but it was the play that really shifted things into "OH ****" mode. It lead to a TD. That being said, he was pretty accurate, and hit JJ and JM for some nice TDs. All this being said I really hope this is a wake up call for the team. I thought last season's kick-in-the-nuts of a playoff loss was a big enough wake up call. Apparently not. I know the 49ers are no joke but we should have won. Take away some bad calls, and turn those drops by Finley into catches and the game is at worst a tie at the end of 4. Here is to Thursday being the REAL debut of the Packers.
