It can, though the other night, anything short was dropped pretty much immediately. There wasn't much threat in throwing short. They were on everything underneath and we couldn't complete anything long if we even got to the part in the play where it was time to throw it. But If we're going to take the body shot mentality on offense, which I happen to agree with, other things need to be in place. This team often seems like whenever they need something to happen, they just take their shot, rather than just keep moving the chains. But then I look back at it and we often put ourselves in bad down and distances and a 3 yard pass might result in a 1st down, but most times won't. So do we take our shots downfield knowing that many times it won't work either, but when it does we take a chunk of yards with it? With Rodgers in the past and our WR's I was more inclined to agree with that. every pass had big play potential. But now, our current set is not consistent enough and our protections aren't great either. I'd lean more towards being conservative early, even if it's a 2 and 8 run the ball again even if it's a run via pass sort of play, do something to just get yards and set stuff up for later. But to do that, you have to be able to rely on your punt game and put your defense in a position to shut someone down and get decent field position. It's hard to play for 10 yards per set of downs in play calling when you know if you don't hit something decent, your punter can't put it past midfield. You also have to rely that these guys are going to make that play. if you're throwing a 4 yard pass, you gotta get at least 4 yards, you can't waste that down by dropping the ball.
