Davis signed a one year contract. I think this is good. He's been a consistantly good long snapper, plus he always seems to be in on the tackle on punts. He seems to find a way to get down to the ball carrier.

It would be more impressive if the punter didn't kick the ball 35 yards and the coverage unit allowed a 15 yard return every time. OK, just being sarcastic....I'm glad they got him signed too!

$48K guaranteed every week during the season.

Work at it 48 hours a week and that is $1000/hour.
or
He plays 8 plays a game(5 punts, 2 PATs, 1 FG or combination thereof) or six grand a play.

Training camp and mini camps are extra. (Only 3K a week)

A very good job because the Packers never bring in competition for him.

Well.....HOPEFULLY they can get someone that can KICK it farther then 35 yards this year! They haven't had a good punter since they let Craig Hentrich go.

Exactly...Hentrich could boom the ball no matter what the conditions it seemed. I know Bidwell got raves from a lot of people too but he was no Craig Hentrich, that's fer sure!

I really think that Jon Ryan guy from the CFL will be the future punter for this team. He looks like he'll be good.

Also, if we get into the playoffs Davis, don't snap like Trey Junkin. :D

They could have saved half a million dollars a year by signing Badger grad Katula as a free agent long snapper last year. And he would be around a lot longer.

I hate it when the Packers don't even look in their own back yard. Makes me question their scouting personel sometimes.

The Packers look in their own backyard. It's just that the fans sometimes ONLY look in their own back yard or overrate what they see in their own back yard. These guys are professionals....they rarely overlook anyone. They may rate them incorrectly but they rarely overlook them.

Many of you don't remember prior to Rob Davis when anytime a kick was about to take place it was an adventure.

Ted did one thing right this week.

BOY do i AGREE NET!!! I rember!!! Thats why i was so GLAD that they resigned Davis! Some people think that anyone can long snap, why pay that much to a guy to do so. BECAUSE one BAD snap can cost you BIG field position! And cost you WINS! They have one of the best in the league, so keep him HERE!

OK I'll go along with that. Then I wish the Packers would rate UW players more accurately. He was raved at by a number of announcers during games for his accuracy and mostly, the speed at which he got the ball back.

There is nothint wrong with Davis. It's just that we could have saved a good chunk of money and been set for the next 12-15 years potentially. He signed for the league minimum with a $10,000 bonus. A drop in the bucket to see if he's your future. Especally with Davis turning 38.

I'm not saying it's a big screw up, but this is the type of schrewd moves top teams make.

The thing is........being that Davis is only a long snapper, whats to say he can't play for 3 or 4 more years? He doesn't have the wear and tear a full time player has. So they needed to keep him, and they did. I say it's a win win there.
Now......if they do need a new guy in the next year or two, i'm sure they can pick up a decent one.
