Over in the Whitney Mercilus thread, @rmontro jokingly posted "Dantés for GM" because I happened to be the first person to post a thread about Mercilus being a trade/cut candidate.

We all know that I am laughably unqualified to be the assistant to the GM's assistant, and there is a lot more to the job than just making high draft picks. But that said, his comment caused me to look back and see who I would have taken high in the draft if I had been at the helm. The results are a mixed bag.

To the best of my recollection, this is what I would have done over the last 5 years (sticking at the original picks-- not moving up or down the board).

2021, Pick #62: Creed Humphrey, OC, Chiefs (#63)

2020, Pick #30: Michael Pittman Jr, WR, Colts (#34)

*This is the pick that I'm least confident in of any in this exercise. Everyone I loved at #12 was gone. I did really like Gary's profile, and no one else in the range after the pick was high on my list.

**People might be skeptical about this, but I really liked Kamara; I recall going into day 2 hearing the rumor that Packers might take a RB at #33 (where they took King) and posting on here that I hoped it was Kamara.

Alright so last year I always held to the belief that if one of these five were there you had to pick them: Surtain, Farley, Horn, Stokes, Newsome

2021, Pick #29 - Eric Stokes (went to us at #29)
2021, Pick #62 - I wanted either DTs out of Osa Odighizuwa (went #75) or Alim McNeil (went #72) with McNeil my circled guy on notes.


2020, Pick #30 - WR Michael Pittman (went #34) *I was hoping our trade up was for him.
2020, Pick #62 - Wanted OT Lucas Niang (went #96) or DT Justin Madubuike (went #71) or LB Logan Wilson (went #65) equally - believe if forced I was leaning to Madubuike if notes are right from draft night.

2019, Pick #12 - DL Dexter Lawrence (went #17)
2019, Pick #21 - DE Montez Sweat (went #26)
2019, Pick #44 - WR Parris Campbell (went #59)

2018, Pick #14 - Tremaine Edmonds (#16)
2018, Pick #45 - Josh Jackson, CB, Packers (#45) I was so ecstatic on his pick at the time...SMH

2017 I don't have anything certain enough to point to on my end.

My track record? Abysmal. I've picked up more donuts in Amish's annual contest than all my correct picks in total. That said, I believe today like I believed 5 years ago. The Packers should have chosen TJ Watt at pick 27 instead of trading back to 31. Watt was the safest and easiest pick at 27 in the history of the draft imo.
