Okay, here's the lowdown on the Packers' playoff chances from today's Press-Gazette. It is stupidly written, so if somebody finds something better, please post it. What's stupid is the #1 scenario, because they don't say HOW the Packers could clinch strength of victory over the Giants.

Also, for the sake of simplicity, they should be ranked in the order of most to least likely, which is a judgment call, but I would say that #3 is most likely, followed by #4, then #2. I don't know where #1 would rank because it is written in such vague terms.

Packers' playoff scenarios

Green Bay can clinch a playoff berth with:

1) A win plus a New York Giants' win at Washington plus Green Bay clinches strength of victory tiebreaker over the Giants.

2) A win plus a N.Y. Giants loss or tie at Washington plus a St. Louis loss or tie at Minnesota.

3) A win plus a N.Y. Giants loss or tie at Washington plus a Carolina win at New Orleans.

4) A win plus a N.Y. Giants loss or tie at Washington plus an Atlanta win at Philadelphia.

5) A tie plus a N.Y. Giants loss plus a St. Louis loss at Minnesota plus an Atlanta loss or tie at Philadelphia plus a Carolina loss or tie at New Orleans.

It definitely seems very possible. How's our strength of schedule looking right now compared to some of the other teams we may be battling on the tiebreaker?

7 Green Bay N 7-8-0 0 4-1-0 6-5-0 0-0-0 .314 .476 22 48 0 -84 29
8 Carolina S 7-8-0 1 4-1-0 5-6-0 0-0-0 .457 .471 17 36 0 -45 24
9 St. Louis W 7-8-0 -1 2-4-0 5-6-0 0-0-0 .343 .462 18 39 0 -34 34

I'm sure there are some meaningful facts somewhere in there, but I don't have time to sort them out. You might try using the "Preview" feature before submitting your post, so you can make that info more readable.

Most likely outcome - Pack must win at da Bears -

A. Deadskins beat Giants and
B. Viqueens beat Rams. (yeah right!!)

I think that is the third most likely outcome. The Rams have a playoff spot on the line, and the Vikings have nothing. I think it's much more likely that Carolina will beat the Saints, because the Saints' playoff position has already been determined. And after that, I would go with Atlanta having a chance to beat Philly, just because the Falcons are the most unpredictable team in the NFL.

Also, maybe I just can't stand the thought of sticking up for the Vikings for any reason whatsoever.

Oh, just to confuse the issue further, Sports Illustrated has an article today saying that "according to the league," the Giants are guaranteed to make the playoffs if they win their final game. So maybe that #1 scenario in the article I quoted is a complete crock.

In the other playoff thread I completely went through all of this and explained how that scenario COULD play out for the Packers.

Not sure why we need eight threads on the playoffs, but hey, go pack go!

I explained the meaningful stats at the end indicating which column was strength of victory and which was strength of schedule, that's what really matters right now in the case of a tiebreaker....

I'm kind of hoping for this scenario: N.Y. Giants loss or tie at Washington plus a Carolina win at New Orleans. Its all the same though if the pack gets in the playoffs and thats all that matter.

Giants lose, Packers win. and hopefully the Falcons or Giants win as well. Then the Rams are out of the equation because we would win a 3 or 4 way tiebreaker. Main thing is beat the Bears and have the Giants lose.

Hopefully, the Packers will beat the Bears. Heck, Detroit almost beat them the other day. And, as much as I hate to say this, I hope the queens beat the lambs.

Was that not the most disheartening thing ever? Williams had the catch! I mean C'MON. How could he let that fall out of his hands? That was a great throw, he made a great jump. Everyting was GREAT. Except the catch.

To win strength of Victory....

Detroit would have to win
Minnesota would have to win
Miami, Arizona, and SF would have to win while
(One of Miami, Arizona, SF could lose if all teams listed below lose)

While

Philly loses, ATL Loses, Dallas loses, TB loses, Houston Loses and Carolina loses...(actually one of these teams could win, if the all 5 teams listed above win)

The easiest way to figure strength of Victory is too add up the number of wins that teams that the Packers and Giants have beaten.

The highest number of wins that Packers opponents that they have beaten could have is 53....The Worst the Giants number could be is 51.

Highly unlikely that all this could happen...but that is why they are saying that the Giants do not control their own destiny.

Philly and Atlanta can't both lose -- they play each other

You are right, I over looked that....That means that all five teams that Green Bay has beaten must win

And Dallas, Tampa, Houston and Carolina must Lose.
