The Panthers have dropped three in a row, including a tough home loss to the division-rival Falcons last week. When the Panthers have the ball: Carolina doesn’t have many dependable weapons on offense, so look for them to try to get star WR Steve Smith the ball as often as possible, but he is getting no help from anyone else outside the numbers. Another problem is a banged-up QB corps, comprised of Vinny Testaverde (Achilles) and David Carr (concussion), that offers no stability. However, the Packers’ run “D” held rookie Adrian Peterson to 45 yards last week and knocked him out of the game, so things won’t be easy for the Panthers. When the Packers have the ball: Brett Favre has been playing great all season and is coming off a 351-yard, three-TD day vs. Minnesota. Carolina’s pass rush has really struggled and will be in trouble if it can’t create pressure. Matchup to watch: Packers ORT Mark Tauscher vs. Panthers DLE Julius Peppers. The Panthers’ front four has underachieved, so if Peppers can create a push against Tauscher, one of the NFL’s top pass-blocking tackles, it could cause Favre to force throws and turn the ball over. BY the numbers: Last week, Favre became the second player in NFL history to reach 60,000 passing yards. His 60,257 yards trails only Dan Marino’s 61,361.
