As my 90 year old grandmother used to say, a gift is a gift and the recipient can do anything they want with it, just as long as they are happy.

If selling that ring helped her wipe out her credit card debt, pay down her mortgage, or even pay for an awesome vacation somewhere....good for her. I don't think that any of us should judge her. Think of it another way, let's say your employer gave you a $25k cash bonus with only one stipulation....you had to put that $25k in a box and look at it but can never spend it. That would suck. The Packers essentially gave her a $25k bonus that she couldn't use unless she sold it somehow. It's not like Packers employees are making player salaries. We all need money!

That's true but instead of selling it she could've pawned it & had the chance to buy it back.

True, but usually when someone wants to pawn something of that value, they aren't going to be able to afford to buy it back within 30, 60 or 90 days... whatever the terms may be at that particular shop.

Good for her. But she should have consigned it to an auction house not sold at a pawn store locally. She could have gotten big money for it at auction
