Packers hire Saints VP to replace Brandt The Green Bay Packers have hired Russ Ball, the New Orleans Saints’ vice president of football administration, to be their vice president of football administration/player finance, the team announced this afternoon. Ball, 48, replaces Andrew Brandt, who resigned as the Packers’ vice president of player finance and general counsel on Jan. 28. According to a statement released by the Packers, Ball’s duties will include negotiating player contracts, salary cap management and other football administration duties. “We are excited to have Russ join our team and look forward to him being a key member of our football operation,” General Manager Ted Thompson said in the statement. “He brings great NFL experience, and we appreciate the New Orleans Saints working with us in enabling Russ to join the Green Bay Packers organization.” Ball has 19 years of NFL experience, including the last six with the Saints. He also has worked for the Kansas City Chiefs, Minnesota Vikings and Washington Redskins. “This is a promotion for Russ, and we’ve always taken the approach that we are supportive when our people have an opportunity to better themselves,” Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis said in a statement on the team's Web site. “Russ has been a valuable part of our organization, but it speaks well for our club and our philosophy when other NFL teams are interested in our employees. We wish Russ well in his future endeavors.” He was a four-year letterman at center for Central Missouri State and later spent eight years as strength and conditioning coach at the University of Missouri. He and his wife, Diana, have two children: Joe, 22, and Andrea, 9. Green Bay Press-Gazette
