Williams suspended indefinitely, Payton for a year without pay, Loomis for 8 games, and Vitt for 6. 2nd Round drafts picks of 2012 and 2013 are forfeited and the Saints pay a $500,000 fine. Goodell came down heavy on the Saints. According to his comments, one of the main reasons for the severity of the punishments was that the Saints' organization lied to them about discontinuing the Bounty system when in fact they had not. The suspension of Payton may be pretty harsh, but there's no question in my mind that Goodell wanted to send a message, and he sent it loud and clear. IMO the Saints are being singled out, but that's the way it happens. When you're caught, you're caught, and when you lie about it, you make it worse. After this, no other team is going to dare to do anything like this. I'm sure other teams have done it, we all know that it goes on, but they will definitely think twice after this. So in the end, the message has been delivered and it will have an effect.</blockquote>
