I was surprised by Dorsey's firing although someone had to take the hit to head after all of the national media hoopla this off season. I for one knew it was doomed to failure because position coaches being promoted to HC are very rarely successful. I guess Andy Reid and may, Jon Gruden being the exceptions (and both from the Holmgren/Walsh coaching tree). I sincerely doubt that Dorsey would have been on board with the hiring of Kitchens. It's my understanding of the structure in Cleveland that a committee exists for the hiring of head coaches. Dorsey and Wolf were ostensibly on that committee, as were the husband and wife truck stop owners - who have a history of meddling in football operations. In any event, that club is going to stink until ownership keeps their nose out of football operations in Cleveland. That situation is very similar to Green Bay prior to Ron Wolf's arrival. The Packers Board of Directors Executive Committee had often been blamed for meddling in football operations and it was Bob Harland who recognized the problem and rectified it once ascending to the Club Presidency. Surely the owners should be involved in all aspects but to a near-nothing level in football operations versus business operations. The Pack have a clear line of delineation that outfits like the Browns and Cowboys and Redskins clearly do not. Egotistical billionaires can cause real issues. The only thing separating those clubs and the Patriots is Bill Bellichik. Just my two cents - and my opinion and a bus token won't get you across town - but, Cleveland and their fans deserve better. I've always had a soft spot for Cleveland.
