I think Ball, Gute, and Wolf were all strong internal candidates. Just like we've known they were going to be for the past 2-3 seasons and gets reported every year. I think everything else reported in the past couple days was nothing but garbage from a jilted journalist without an audience with an ax to grind against an organization he's been wrong about so many times and they give him nothing. Whether Rodgers likes or dislikes and GM candidate, which I don't believe any of the reports as any more than speculation at the very, very best, is immaterial. He's not in on the decision making and as much as we'd like to think, "oh well, he's so good and we need to sign him to an extension he needs to help pick the next GM" the guys at the top aren't giving him any say in any of it. It's not how it works. If we did in fact get to a point where Rodgers thinks he can call shots I'd be right behind the guy that sent him packing to a new team. Just like when it became apparent Favre thought he was bigger than the team, he wasn't. Nobody is. I think Gutekunst just had a good interview, has a good resume and they felt he was the right guy to lead them. It's not like he came out of nowhere. If it wasn't for a junk journalism article getting rehashed with a conspiracy theorist has been at the keyboard, nobody would be batting an eye at why he was hired or even wonder why Ball didn't get it. They were all candidates, and there was a strong possibility one of them was going to separate themselves and get the position.
