It’s kind of normal for players to better in years 4,5 than in 1 or 2. Beyond that you have to consider what’s going on around them too. Which I don’t care to rehash history, but lacking in dline at times, pass rush at times and a fitting at dbs others affects things. Then you have to consider Hyde was good here, he was playing behind Dix and Burnett as a youngster. But he played his part pretty well here. It’s not like he was a schlub and then became great. He was good and ascending while here. Randall was clearly talented and good and for very valid reasons he played out of a natural position for this team. The only bad year he had was injury. He wasn’t some slackass that sucked here and was great somewhere else. Rollins had a very good start here. I tend to think playing on a grounder that needed surgery then rupturing an Achilles had more to do with anything, but the kid hardly had a chance after a very promising rookie season. But I suppose after 1 year of college football he was poised for that rookie season already according to some. Hayward was good here, really good here. He just had a hamstring injury that kept him off the field or much of it. Of course then plays a couple healthy seasons in the athletic prime of his career for someone else. But he didn’t suck here and find greatness elsewhere. He WAS good here when he could stay on the field. This notion that guys come from college pro ready as DBs is kind of silly. And this notion that all these players were no good here, but better elsewhere because of a position coach is kind of silly when even as young pups, when healthy showed they belonged more than a lot of others. And it’s hardly surprising that a 4th or 5 th year healthy player is a better player than an in need of surgery 2nd year player playing out of position because of need.
