It's fairly obvious Rex Ryan will get fired as the Jets head coach at season's end. No one doubts the Jets defensive abilities. How about exit Capers stage left at the end of the season and hiring Rex to be the Packers defensive coordinator? An aggressive, nasty defense THAT CAN STOP THE RUN!

The irony would be having Rex in Green Bay. Buddy, his dad, hated the Packers with a passion.

Rex is a lousy head coach. But as defensive coordinator he could bring Buddy's 46 concept here.

While McCarthy got a contract extension, his legacy will be hurt,(as was Mike Sherman's) by having a Hall of Fame QB having to score 30 points per game to win. Even if the defense moved to the top 12 it would propel the Packers deep into the playoffs.

The old football coach: "If they can't score on you they can't beat you".

It should be noted that the 46 defense got it's name from Doug Plank's jersey number. The defense was so named because Plank would frequently come up into the box as a linebacker in a 3 DB set. That Bears defense smothered the run and dared QBs to throw against a scheme where run blitzes and pass blitzes were nearly indistinguishable. It was one unrelenting jail break after another.

Under the current rules that protect QBs and receivers, this defense is untenable today. It is also worth noting that Bears defense had immense talent that made it work, including arguably the best front 7 (or 8 as it were) to have played the game if only for a few short years.
