So I'll push back against this relatively hard - unless you're purely talking from a fans perspective. It is extremely rare - not never, but rare - that a scouting department is so enamored or shocked at the combine that they shoot a guy up the board a terrible amount. The combine is a lot like the Senior Bowl or Shrine and such....it's confirmation of what has been seen on tape, At the Senior bowl and such and somewhat at the combine it's is this guy really that quick out of his breaks...does he truly stay sunk in his hips his entire engagement with the DL...or does he always take an extra step mirror the WR allowing separation underneat... The combine adds in official measurements which again can confirm or raise flags to watch more film. An example might be an edge guy that is a high high pressure producer...comes in and his arm measurement comes in very short...say 31.5 inches or illustrates a lack of strength...and this is confirmed. The scouting department might go back and decipher how is he winning so often because atypical lengths and attributes are rarely overcome when the next level is bigger, faster, stronger and smarter. Now some scouts might have already identified, this dude wins purely because he is so fast, but if any OL get even a hand of engagement its done because he doesn't have the abilty to bend or his arm length gets OL in too much and controlled.... The guys that the combine can really illuminate are the guys that come from a short career in college or a place where they aren't asked to do perhaps a role that will be different in the NFL...some years you'll see WRs that are either buried on the depth chart, experience a QB injury or just a heavy run system guy that continually illustrates belonging with some of the other best guys in his class. Since folks seem to typically only recognize WRs two guys that come to mind are Teslaa and **** from last year. Scouts and folks who watch film knew about both of these guys and MANY had them as early Day 3 guys prior to the combine happening...however the narrative flipped on them amongst those not in the know as they illustrated to everyone through testing, bowls and combine that they weren't just day 3 or UDFA guys like many thought merely because of ignorance of some kind (just not knowing). **** goes in the 4th and Teslaa in the 3rd. I would bet personal stake that if a team has Miller at DT 3 or DT 4 and the other guys before are gone, they won't for a second hesitate picking him at 14 / 25 / 31 whatever spot.
