To compound their issues you all have probably seen by now but Michael Penix Jr is out for the year with knee injury (left ACL). This coming on the tails of drafting him in the top 10...right after paying Kirk 180m/100m guaranteed in free agency, and after Penix spent 6 years in college (Covid "bonus" year, medical redshirt) and had four of those seasons cut short with season ending injuries (2x Right ACL, AC joint, SC joint). I feel bad for the guy but that whole situation is looking rather suspect. Back to our drafting though, I'm really curious to see how this year plays out. Obviously, with no firsts the approach will have to change a little bit. At the same time, I feel like we *generally* tend to draft "long term" with our early round picks and are usually not looking for day one contributors. IMO we typically prefer to draft players with more "potential" even if they take a while to actually realize it. I mean, in a perfect world we would love to get guys with great potential AND who are ready to step in day one and hit the ground running, but usually where we are drafting those guys are long gone. But, I think it's also not unreasonable to suggest a move like the Parsons trade means we are trying to compete sooner than later, so I'm interested to see how we approach our upcoming needs. Will we forsake a bit of long-term potential to try and get guys who can contribute straight away, even if they are "lower-ceiling"?
