At 29 yrs old (30 in July) I'm surprised he didn't go for a 3 yr deal & "settled" for a 1 yr deal?

I guess he's "betting on himself" as they like to say, but yes, at 30 that's a fairly big risk to take.

Looking at OTC his previous contract pushed $8.5mil out to 2027. This extension must push out even more into the future. The Vikes are already NEGATIVE $18mil on the cap for '26 & this extension should make it even worse. Cap hell awaits Minny, & they still have a rookie deal QB, so they're in a bind for a few years.

With the contracts they're been signing the last year or two, and the reckless draft strategies, I think they're going all in for what they see as a narrow window. They've got a lot riding on McCarthy, and need to hope he's a real fast learner.

I mentioned him in another thread. I'd say yes on a one-year deal with Jabrill. He could be that additional body we need in the defensive backfield to insure we aren't caught short handed during the year. He also would bring some veteran leadership to add to what we have with McKinney.

I think he'd come in reasonably with the intent of turning a great season into a nice sized paycheck for him next year. But I wouldn't hand him Ft. Knox. A reasonable offer that can give him the showcase he needs.

Gosh, Peppers was amazing in college but admittedly I lost track of him in the NFL. Has he been any good in the NFL? The article doesn't talk much about his play, except to say that he would be a starter on another team. He would be a great backup here, but do we really want him taking snaps away from Evan Williams or McKinney?

That's a good question, as to how he'd be used. He would probably be the backup for both and worked into the nickel and dime packages as well. He ran a 4.46 - 40 coming into the league so he's not slow. At the right price a real steal for the Packers.

Jabril Peppers is a good coverage safety but he'll be 30 in October and I'm not sure why the Packers would sign a player at a position where the team has excellent depth when they have far greater needs at CB and, potentially, DT, depending on if the current guys can stop the run as well as Slaton and Clark did last season. Peppers won't be cheap and I think the team can spend its money more effectively at other positions.

Yeah Safety is not a group that needs much, if any, support. I'd be more interested in a CB.

I talked to my cousin who is a longtime Pats season-ticket holder. She said that Peppers is still a good player, but that the Pats are trying to get younger.

I agree that we need a veteran CB more than we need a backup safety. If we got Peppers for free and a case of Elsinore beer...I'd pull the trigger.
