The drafting of Love was somewhat similar to some of what we heard after Gary was selected last season. Many thought, including myself, that the selection was a luxury given the fact that the Packers had just signed the Smith Brothers and maybe the pick should have been directed at a position of higher need. I didn't honestly know what to think of Gary at the time and I am still unsure. Kind of the same with Love. Both players appear to be guys with big upsides at premium (expensive) positions. Then again, both players could bust right out and the picks will be viewed as complete wastes. Given that the Packers and every other NFL team have had first round busts, I just accept that its part of the process and part of the risk-reward equation. No doubt that if Love ends up being THE guy, this will be viewed as one of the biggest and ballsiest draft moves in Packer history. If he ends up being average or trade bait, you pretty much break even. If after a few seasons, the Packers give up on him and get rid of him, then I will call him one of bigger busts in Packer draft history, but not until then. Right now I like what I see of Love and his potential. I am just unsure if he was worth the risk, given the other more perceived (to me) immediate needs of a team that is coming off a 13-3 season and a trip to the NFCCG.
