Yeah... that series was a slap in the face with the carp of reality. The Cardinal series must have taken all of their vim and vigor. Last season, they were in middle of their 11 game win streak.
Fortunately, its a 162 game season and in the big picture, this may have been the wakeup call that the Brewers needed. I still think they have a roster that can compete for a World Series, but injuries and slumps will effect it a lot more than the higher payroll teams.
My biggest concern has shifted to the starting pitching rotation, as well as middle relief. With Miz's status suddenly being a bit tenuous and Woody being put on the 60 day IL with a right anterior shoulder capsule injury, our starting rotation has taken a blow. Which brings me to the middle relievers. If we can't get more than 5-7 innings out of the starters, that's a problem. On any given night, it seems our middle relievers are either pitching like Cy Young Winners or they get shelled and look like they shouldn't be pitching in the majors.
It will be interesting to see what the Brewers do between now and the Trade Deadline.
