Interesting concept that a few posters here had mentioned Pop' as a rush specialist.. yep it is slow in Packer news for sure.. linky.... The March 31st issue of the Sporting News talks about the possibility of the Green Bay Packers running a 3-4 defense. Please understand, nowhere does it say that the Packers would make the 3-4 their base defense. In fact, the article starts out generally praising the Packers for the free agent signing of linebacker Brandon Chillar. The Sporting News predicts that Chillar will beat out Poppinga for the starting strong side job. The article contines, "But that doesn't mean that Poppinga won't get on the field. On passing downs, the coaches might go to a 3-3 alignment with Poppinga as a roaming rusher or to a 3-4 with either Poppinga or A.J. Hawk blitzing." The author questions the ability of both Poppinga and Chillar to cover tight ends. That's something that Packer fans have been worried about for some time too. Is it just me, or didn't the Packers have the safeties lining up on the tight ends more often and doing a good job of it from about December onward?
