If you want stats, here's stats: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/8447/splits/?season=career http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/8447/situational/?season=career What jumps out at you? I'll tell you what jumps out at me: 1. Crosby's make % drops precipitously when the temp is below 60 degrees. This supports my conclusion from an earlier discussion that Crosby is inherently a dome kicker, thanks to other stats courtesy of GoPGo. 2. The fact that Lambeau is reputed to be a bad place to kick has had only a marginal affect on Crosby's record. He's 77.2% home vs. 78.3% away. The study in question takes in more years before the hybrid turf was installed than after, while Crosby's entire career has been on the hybrid stuff. If you think this isn't a factor, think about the last time you saw a divot on this newer turf. While Lambeau can be colder than other outdoor stadiums late in the season, it is a good kicking surface. I doubt Lambeau is a markedly worse place to kick than any other northern outdoor stadium. 3. Some of us liked the prospect of swapping out Crosby for Dan Carpenter. Compare Carpenter's stats below 60 degrees to those of Crosby: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/9032/splits/?season=career Carpenter's reputation as a warm weather kicker is false. Temperature has had no affect on his performance...12 of 15 (80.0%) from 40-49 (the money shots) below 60 degrees compared to Crosby's 22 of 34 (64.7%) in the same temp range. If you're wondering why Carpenter is kicking in Buffalo, you now know the answer. They saw something TT did not or chose to overlook, for devil-you-know or other considerations. This bears out my opinion, from earlier discussions, that Crosby is a dome kicker, more temperature-sensitive than the average kicker. If he were playing in a southern or dome division he might be All-Pro. But that doesn't do us any good. This also bears out my earlier statement, made before looking at these stats, that I would not get too jazzed about the streaky Crosby's current hot phase and STPOW honor given that it was executed on a day where it was a balmy 60 degrees.
