This shouldn't be surprising. It has been their M.O the last few years to move off of players of value that are entering a contract year and, overall, it has worked out for them. They were not going to throw a big contract at him.

Return value I'm ok with. Would have preferred Tong or Scott and would have liked another player from the Mets coming back over since Myers was in the deal, but generally neutral on it.

Having said that with Williams seems like half the Brewers lineup going to look like this at the plate :

Spot on. This is what small market teams are forced into doing. They can't pay top players and Freddie would have been gone after the 2026 season. Get value for him now and hope the trade works out.

Probably the same move the Bucks should have taken and still can take with Giannis. While I love Giannis and wish he could finish his career in Milwaukee, it is easy to see that the Bucks just don't have the capital nor the draft stock to put enough talent around him to compete.

Waiting to see if the Crew trades Trevor Megill. Sounds like if not, they would probably lose him in 2027. They negotiated a 1 year $4.7M deal with him, but that doesn't mean he will stay in Milwaukee. Probably a fair price and thus good trade bait for a top franchise in need of a closer. Abner Uribe would probably take over the spot as the Brewers closer, which he did quite well, when Megill was injured in 2025.

Baseball is basically 6 Major League teams now:
Dodgers, Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, Phillies, Blue Jays... and 4 others who want to be in the club... Cubs, Astros, Padres and Rangers.

Everyone else is essentially a Triple A farm system team, supplying those top 10 elite teams with talent, year after year after year. They can't compete with those multiple huge contracts given out. Plus. Those top teams don't give two cents about the Luxury Tax, so they will exceed it.

Does anyone think the Detroit Tigers will be able to keep back to back Cy Young winner, Tarik Skubal? They are basically being forced to trade him, this off season, or before the trade deadline in July, or risk getting nothing...nothing! His agent is Scott Boras, and he wants a 10 yr deal, in the $400-$500M range, for his client. Detroit can't/won't absorb that kind of a payroll hit, for one player, especially one who pitches once every 5 games.

Probably mid season if they are out of it. Unless a top line reliever, I think generally relievers tend to get a better return mid season when teams are making a playoff push

Yes and no.

Megill had a solid 2025 season and his current 2026 salary is an underpay for what he did. While it would be nice to have Megill until the Brewers know were they are headed in 2026, I think they can get by without him. Right now there are all sorts of teams that have visions of winning a World Series, but are short a solid closer like Megill. Those are the teams you fleece now, at probably a higher price than what you would get at the trade deadline, when there are far less suitors for his service. Plus, you are locking Megill's trade value at a high level now. What if he gets hurt or doesn't have the success that he had in 2025? Throw in the fact that whatever assets you get in exchange for Megilll, would now play for the Brewers.

Bill Veeck! Good man with the spirit of a 10 year old.
Veeck and Charles Finley, who owned the A's were pioneers in upending the strict code of puritan baseball's fundamental pillars of self-righteous indignation that they had about colorful uniforms, facial hair, and entertaining the fans. I remember "Disco Night" in old Comiskey Park where fans brought their disco records to the park to burn, on the field itself, between games of a double-header with the Tigers.

The fire was huge, and a riot ensued on the field causing the White Sox to be forced to forfeit that second game of the doubleheader. People believe it was Bill Veeck's idea, but his son Mike was deeply involved, and it caused then Commissioner Bowie Kuhn to consider drastic measures against promotions, and he effectively made sure that Mike was out of MLB.

To be honest, baseball was just the game until then, but it changed dramatically because of their antics, and not all was bad. I look back at when Charlie Finley was giving players bonuses for the best handle-bar moustaches, and Veeck was installing an exploding scoreboard that everyone except the White Sox fans hated because it was intended to insult the opposition when a Sox player hit a dinger. Now, everyone has some promotional aspect they use when a home team player goes yard. And Finley's uniforms for his players? Wedding gown white? Yup. That's what the white ones were called. I remember a picture of Rollie Fingers with his slicked moustache and wedding gown white jersey on gracing posters related to team promotion. Now? Players are their own person, and you see almost anything goes.

As much as those two guys disrespected the norms of MLB, they also gave it a boost it needed. They turned it into a day of entertainment that you could enjoy, even if your team was a cellar dweller.

Finley was still thought as a cheap skate even for those days. Veeck just never had a whole lot. I recall Jim Pearsall was hired as a broadcaster for a short time. According to Pearsall Finley promised him an extra 10 grand if he met his obligations. Finley reneged and Pearsall harped about it every chance he could for years on.

for me ; the jury is still out on this swap

we got to see what these two from the Mets will do for the team

maybe 1/2 - 3/4 of the season? and then a verdict?

These players sound hungry to do whatever it takes (to win and then get paid big $$). That's human and well...

The Tigers are interested in paying Skubal a big contract, but not for 7-10 years. They would prefer to do 4-5yrs @ $40-$50M per.

I'm the same closet fan as you, except with the Brewers. As a kid, I was a big Yount and Molitor fan. Trammell is my favorite player of all time, and he's what made me a Tigers fan.

I’m still sick about how Milwaukee took a tumble to finish last season. In
Some ways the Packers followed suit. Milwaukee was holding the best regular season record at one point and Green Bay was a #1 Seed. Both teams fizzled like a high $ dud firework

fizzled is correct - why? So many reasons to debate if you got the time

Hope springs eternal
