Woodson didn't think he'd like Green Bay

I remember when Woody signed with GB and didn't show up for OTA's. I was thinking then, how is McCarthy going to react to this: I'm glad it worked out. I'm sure for people of color GB is a harder place to live. There isn't any really great nightlife in Green Bay or Appleton. The single black guys have virtually no contact with black women their own age. That has to be tough. Still, it's a job. Woody makes tons of money. He's given his best effort and might be our best defensive player. The bottom line is that he likes playing in GB now and I'm glad to hear that he feels as if he's well accepted in GB.

I'm sure Green Bay can be very unattractive to certain types of players, but the silver lining is that TRUE football players should want to come to WI to play the game, because it's all about football, all the time.

This just exposes one of my concerns. Once Favre retires and we have no megastar quarterback, it's going to be tough to get top notch free agents to even consider GB. Would Reggie have even considered GB if Farve wasn't here (doubt it). Look at Woodson, he was an older player and the ONLY reason he came to GB was because we were the only ones willing to pay him. I'm sure knowing Farve was here helped him in his decision. If Farve was not here, he might have just retired. If I was black, GB would be low on my list of places I'd want to play. I grew up in Wisconsin but, I do not miss the winters at all and I know I sure I wouldn't want to play 3 hours of football in that weather.

My fear is once Farve is gone, GB will have a tough time keeping and attracting talented free agents. Sad days might be ahead again. Hopefully they can keep Farve involved in the organization somehow as recuriting specialist. Players seem to like Farve. Maybe I'm totally wrong, I really hope so and that GB is considered a top tier team and players are dying to play on our team. Remember the Yankees of the NFL? (how Lombardi wanted GB's public image to be). It's been too long since those glory days.

I honestly think if Green Bay can re-establish winning ways, the free-agents will not mind coming.

I think the value of winning is underestimated. Sure personal life may factor into discussion, but honestly would you like to go to a city that has the extravagant nightlife, extremely diverse population, but losing team OR come to a city that doesn't have the greatest of nightlifes (still has one to some degree), passionate fans that will be there to support you play, and a great program that has established it can win year in, year out?

I think 90% of the players would choose the latter, more-so players that are a bit older (26-30) because they realize at the end, it isn't about how hard you party, or how much money you make, it's about winning games.

You play to win the game.

isn't milwaukee near green bay? players could go there if they hated gb so much

Milwaukee is a good 2-ish hour drive south of GB. They aren't very close.

2 hours? Heck, a lot of us Californians have 2 hour commutes.

It's more like 3hrs from Milwaukee (and I've had that commute too on occasion!)

my friends tell me I am the non-white packers fan they have ever known(I am hispanic), I don't really care though I love my team

So who are hispanic people suppose to cheer for? Kansas City?

I've never understood that and I live in Canada where it also seems to be the case. For some strange reason if you are coloured you don't like Green Bay. The weird thing is I know many black people who like Minny, and it is not like there are many black people who live there? Could it be lack of black QBs in Green Bay? A lot of the black guys I know like teams with black QBs.

I completely understand the small town celebrity thing, but you can't tell me that if Brett Favre played in New York he wouldn't be harrassed all the time either. I guess the thinking is because he is black he must play for the Packers, but I think most fans are only really interested in meeting their favourites and not some guy who may be on the practice roster.

Wow, I can't believe you uttered those words thinking it would make sense! First and foremost, no one cares what color their QB is, as long as he is winning them games...so that is so far from the reason. Minnesota is a much bigger city with a pretty live nightlife and many attractions to attend to...comedy shows, NBA game, horse races, attractive real estate market, etc....so it has nothing to do with fans harassing them, color of the QB(wow), or any other silly thing of the sort. FYI, Minnesota has a large black population and the term colored is not politically correct, quite offensive to be honest. Basically, there is nothing here for the athletes to do but go practice and go home, which gets dull! They can't golf on the weekend, too friggin cold..most aren't hunters...get tired of staring at their wife all day(lol)...just that GB is limited basically, but a wonderful football town. But don't worry, KC is not too far ahead of you of least liked football player cities! I tell you this though, you guys have the nicest, warmest people in football..can't do no wrong!!! Now, that's best in the NFL!!!

Minneapolis does not have many black people. More, yes, but among the lowest amounts of all larger American cities. My friends from the cities say the area is pretty much just a handful of hmongs and white people. Minneapolis nightlife is good, but it is brought down by the fact that the downtown is packed with thousands of university kids on the weekends, I think.
