I seriously think Gary Bettman needs to put an NHL team in a resonable place, i've always wanted a team either in Seattle or Milwaukee, or possibly Madison in the Kohl's Center.

    Thoughts?

No, we don't need an NHL team. Chicago Blackhawks are the only team that matters around here. Try getting all the Hawks fans in WI to like a new time.

It would never happen at the university since they feel it would take away from the UW team and its drawing power.

Maybe Green Bay could have a team, and call it say........The Wildcats.....The Kitty Kats..... no,no, no...the Bobcats. That's the ticket. The Green Bay Bobcats.

    Nice try.
But it would have to be something Wisconsin like the other state teams are.
    Like:

    The Brats.

It could work if NHL does not overlap at all with the NFL.

I really dont pay much attention to the NHL but I did get to see the Gamblers win the Anderson cup.

I am positive it would work in Wisconsin. The NHL seems to flourish in the eastern USA. I have to say though. I couldn't cheer from them as I am a huge Edmonton Oiler fan. That will never die. Sorry guys :)

I actually agree, WI would harbor excellent hockey. Problem is that Bettman would never do it. He is terrible. Unless Sidney Crosby wanted to play in Wisconsin, then it won't happen. I personally think Wisconsin and Winnepeg (again) need teams.

Where would you put a team? Madison? not with the UW. Milwaukee? The city is pretty maxed out with below avg sports teams. GB? Try stealing some thunder from Lambeau field.

I dont even know how many fans they would get, probably most hockey fans go for the Hawks.

I think we will have a team within 5 years. We have the fans, we just need to get organized. nhlinwisconsin.com

As much as I hate to admit it, the NHL is a struggling league. They have more teams than the sport's popularity can support as it is. There is a great fanbase in WI for the Blackhawks, and as much as I'd love to see the NHL prosper and, if the conditions were right, grow, there are other places (I'm looking right at Winnipeg) that deserve a team first.

I don't intend that in any way to be disrespectful to any other city, state or province.

the NHL would be better off with about 14 teams. too many teams. Just like the NBA.

Original 6 and who, just for conversation? I'd go with:

    Bruins
    Blackhawks
    Red Wings
    Habs
    Rangers
    Leafs

    then:

    Calgary
    Edmonton
    Vancouver
    Pens
    Islanders
    Philly
    Avs or Blues

And I'd put a team back in Winnipeg.

I know it would never happen, and part of the reason I kept some of those teams was history or regional rivalry.

Im not a huge hockey fan to be honest, more of a basketball fan but I would say get rid of Tampa Bay, Atlanta, Carolina, Florida, New York Islanders, Columbus, Dallas, Phoenix, Nashville, Anaheim, San Jose, LA, St Louis, New Jersey, and Washington.

I have no clue which teams make $ and which ones dont, but more stars on fewer teams would do wonders.

Haha, and I casually follow basketball, mostly hoping the Heat lose this year.

The teams in the south just don't work for me. I say that, but some of my best experiences visiting a "road" city were for the Carolina games. The fans there do it up right.

I think with fewer teams, and therefore more even distribution of the stars, the remaining teams would flourish and the league overall would be more solvent.

I love our owner here (local team is the Caps), but when I think of the NHL, Washington just isn't in the top tier of teams I historically think of.

Thanks for your honesty on the issue, part of the reason I'm really liking this forum is all the open and good conversations.

I might decrease the amount of games too.

I think the 82 game season would have to be decreased is there were to be fewer (by a significant amount) teams. Dropping to 70 would be better. Of course, that would mean less ticket revenue. Can't say anything about television revenue, they might as well be covering the NHL on QVC3 for all the coverage it gets.

But that is another reason it won't happen. We're going to have to live with mediocre "stars" being spread too thin among too many teams in too many markets.
