The 21st Winter Olympics from Vancouver, Canada kicked off last night. Anyone going to be watching any Olympic coverage these next 2 weeks??

The event I'm most excited for is ice hockey, but I'm really going to watch all the coverage I can. My tv will solely be on NBC these next couple of weeks.

    Go Team USA!! :happy0005:

Yea it was a very tragic accident. I was watching the news when they officially announced his passing, and my friend and I just stared at the tv. Completely shocked. I can't even imagine what the athletes/citizens/his family are going through. It was very emotional when the Georgian athletes showed up to the Parade of Nations last night.

Good News though: America on top! 1 Gold, 1 Silver, and 2 bronze. I was really hopinh Apollo would take gold in the short track though.

He still could. He took silver in the 1500, but the 500 is his best event. He has some chances left. I will be watching every night. Watched the biathlon today. Exciting stuff.

I agree. They have the most talent. Brodeur is a beast in the net.

Side not....the Canadian women's team beat Slovakia 18-0 last night! USA beat China 12-1 today. Safe to say there is a definite talent gap in women's hockey.

That kind of talent gap typically only shows up when teams play against North America (USA and Canada). The non-NA matchups actually have the more realistic scores, usually. Sweden beat Switzerland 3-0 on Day 2, which reflects a typical hockey score. I say usually b/c Slovakia, the same team that just lost 18-0, beat Bulgaria 82-0 :eek:hmy: during the European pre-qualifying tournament. But yea that's a huge talent gap, especially since this country isn't as hockey crazy as most European nations.

Now the men's ice hockey is a completely different story. But we'll save that for later. :)

In other news, congrats to Canada for ending their Gold Medal slump as host of the Olympics!! :happy0005:

    Medal Count (Day 3):
    USA - 6
    Germany - 4
    France - 3
    Canada - 3

Yeah. I cannot wait for men's hockey to start. Predictions anyone? My pick is Canada. I was in Toronto two months ago and they had 8 million prime time viewers in that country to watch a JUNIOR hockey game. If Canada wins gold as a host country in the Olympics that country will go INSANE.

Man, it'll be awesome if Canada wins. That will be quite the sight. I also think Canada will take it, but that Russian team is downright scary. US and Canada start play later today, hope I'll be able to catch both of those games.

Only person who should scare anyone on the Russia team is Malkin

Can anyone guess who I support in the NHL yet?

    LOL

Joe Pavelski on the ice for team USA, from Stevens Point, WI. Currently plays for the Sharks. Had a great career for the Badgers.

Wake me Wednesday night when Snowboard Halfpipe takes place.

Until then, and after then, I don't really care about these Olympics.

Summer is so much more fun.

Just the Halfpipe, I think. Used to do Slopestyle, but I don't even know if that's an Olympic event. I think that might just be X Games.

Congrats to Lindsey Vonn, Shani Davis, Shaun White and the rest of todays medalists!! :happy0005:

Shaun White is TOO good, and Vonn's interview after the final run was very heartwarming. :)

    Double. McTwist. 1260.

Rest of the world, you are so far behind Shaun White it's not even funny. He might be the most dominant athlete on earth not named Michael Phelps.

USA! USA! USA! That empty net goal right at the end to seal it was awesome. Really exciting hockey game in the third period. Can't believe Canada didn't level at the end with all the chances they had.

Tonight, I became a hockey fan. That game has me hooked.

And since it's the nearest team, and the only team who's games aren't blacked out by my cable, i'm officially rooting for a team in Minnesota. It feels weird.
