I admit I've been out of the loop lately, but I haven't heard anything about how the running back situation is going to play out this season.

With Tony Fisher gone, the Packers need a running back who is a third down specialist. I think Ahman Green would be the best one for that job. He knows the offense and he's an excellent blocker and an excellent receiver out of the backfield. He has taken a pounding for several years now, and is getting older, and he would have a much better chance of staying healthy if he wasn't in the game on first and second downs, although they could still have some plays for him on those downs to help keep his head in the game and make use of his explosive speed, assuming he still has it.

I think Samkon Gado is the guy who should be our running back on first and second downs. As for Davenport, he's a good backup, but he'll probably get hurt anyway.

I'd bet that Davenport will be the 3rd down back. I can tell you who it's NOT going to be.. the guy who fumbles the ball. I don't believe that turnovers will be tolerated.

i think i read somewhere that Najeh is training at fullback in these camps. but i think since we are now going with the zone blocking that we will do more what denver does, and just keep going with whose producing. so i mean i think they are work all three backs as first and second down backs and then i see it working out that green will start gado will fill in and najeh will be third down back rotated in with gado .

i remember denver got killed by the media a bunch because they said the running backs in a committee system never got into the flow of the game.
but i say let their record and their yardage speak for itself. i also think that by committee and the zone blocking scheme makes for perfect use of a thunder and lighting running back tandem. however green bay just has a bunch of thunder. we will be in the top 10 in rushing yardage next year, based soley on the new scheme. and top 5 if all our guys stay healthy and gel.

Detroit drafted our lightning 1 pick ahead of us in the third round.

the Broncos always seem to have a good runningback no matter who they put in there, let's hope that's the case for Green Bay this season! :D

If it's a short yardage situation or we're up and it's the 4th quarter I expect Davenport to be in the game. If it's 3rd and long then Green most likely. Gado and Green we'll see majority of the carries and Davenport will be used as a clock eater.

personally i think yu will see some 2 rb sets and looks this year with sg and ag back there for 3rd downs they are both viable running and recieving threats. also see henderson being a 3rd down back. the man wants carries so dont be surprised

I'm not so sure I want Davenport in on that situation. He runs too high for my taste. Saying that.....I'm not sure who I WOULD want in that situation :?:

Coaches already said we'll be seeing 2 RB sets.

That alone makes the offense more creative than Shermans ever was.

Lets just hope its something that works!

Colledge is a rookie who uses terrible technique. Wells is not overly athletic. If you expect this run game to even resemble Denver's you are in for a huge dissapointment.

Colledge is very athletic. He was perhaps the most athletic offensive lineman taking on Day 1. He's a great pass blocker as well. My big question with him is his run blocking ability. He needs work there.

Well is also an athletic lineman. His best position has always been center and he's a great fit there.

With that said this won't be as productive as Denver's running game but it will be an upgrade from last year. Gado, Green, and Davenport form one of the better backfields in the league when healthy.

Running out the clock - hey, wouldn't that be nice?!

It's an interesting discussion - could be all or nothing at RB this year, depending on fitness and the OL.

Slight worry at the moment is that Sam Gado seems to be having a few problems picking up the scheme - but then he must be one of the brighter guys on the team, so I'm hoping his probs are only temporary.

Will Henderson as a 3rd down back - now that would be something! He's certainly a great receiver - and somewhat of a hurdler!! :D

You guys are pessimists. Third down? C'mon... how often is that going to happen?

Davenport at FB is a waste. The guy can't run without getting hurt. He's not the guy I want crashing full-speed into linebackers and safeties. Personally, I'm still hoping we trade Davenport and pick up Michael Bennett. He's Packer People, and he's a great third-down back.

Noah Herron could still end up making the roster and he has the makings of a good 3rd down RB. If Davenport can fill in at FB behind Hendo, then we don't need Leach and Herron can take that roster spot. He's fast, a great receiver and has good moves to make something happen.

In Green, Gado and Davenport we have 3 similar RBs -- bigger, strong runners. Herron would be a good change of pace back.

pyle we wont be in for a huge disappointment. we were 4-12 last year.... it cant get much worse. we will be a better football team next year and our offensive line will be a better unit next year. we will be better no matter what all you pessimists say. man i sure hope all these guys arent as bad as you KNOW they are... we might not win a game next year
