Lots of talk about wide outs but I wanted to put them in one place. My assumption is we don't move up and Olave, Williams and Wilson are gone. We take two within the 1st 2nd and 3rd rounds. And we can move down with a first, but not too far. One first we should use on another position. I'm going to list them first (I'll miss a few/bunch so add who you want to) and then I will make my two picks and two backups if they are not there.
1. Burks. Not sold on him. A poor man's Metcalf. Would rather trade down for someone else.
2. London. Not sold on him either. No speed or separation. Would rather trade down for someone else.
3. Dotson. Probably very good and reliable.
4. Pickens. Sounds like a very good pick.
5. Watson. Sounds really interesting. Speed, tall
6. Moore. He caught a lot of passes.
7. Pierce. Caught more than 3 balls in only 6 games.
8. Thornton. I liked his tape. Good hands.
Not sure what the fallout will be. If we use one first at another position; then will these receivers be there with our 2nd. Maybe, if we can trade the 22nd (exchange firsts and get a higher 2nd to boot or two high 2nds).
So there are a lot more receivers. But based on this, I like Pickens and Watson. I like Moore for a 3rd option and Dotson. And I just fell in love with the tape on Thornton though nobody puts him way up there.

Depending on what the Packers do in Free Agency, I am hoping they draft 2-3 WR's. If they pick up a starting level Free agent WR, I think adding a top rookie and then a later round return specialist/WR would be good. IF they have no plans on bringing in a FA starting caliber WR, a mistake in my opinion, then I feel they should go after 2 WR's in the first 4 picks and a 3rd for a return specialist.

I would be giddy as hell if they came out of the first round with Olave and Burks. I don't think that happens though. So if they can get Burks at 22 and Pickens with their second rounder, I would still be pretty excited.

I too am not that sold on London. Seems like a Lazard Clone to me.

Skyy Moore appears to be a slot WR, we have 2, don't need another. He didn't look all that great against Michigan, I wouldn't be that excited about him, unless it was 3rd round.

Christian Watson is a tough one. He looks great on film, but I would have a hard time evaluating him due to the competition being pretty inferior. At times he looked like a SEC WR, playing against High Schoolers, but how will that translate in the NFL? I don't view him as an immediate starter.

I really like Pierce, but hope he is there in the 2nd round. Again, good WR, but not a future #1.

I haven't watched/read anything on Dotson.

I love Thornton as a mid to late round return guy. But I am sure there are several they are looking at, including Velus Jones.

One in the 2nd round and one in the 7 th round.

Actually, I want Gutekunst to stay true to his board more than anything because I believe he and his scouts are really good at assessing talent and value.

I could argue that either way. Gute's first draft, despite landing Jaire in it, was not very good. His second draft was great, until he got out of round 2, then, not so good. Too early to grade 2020 and 2021, but so far there are highlights and lowlights in both drafts.

I'm fine with sticking to "BPA" within reason. The Packers currently have a desperate need at WR for the upcoming season and even more importantly, for years to come. There is absolutely no way he should skip that position or only address it late, like he did in 2018 with Moore, MVS and ESB.

I also don't think that drafting a WR in the 2nd and 7th is even coming close to addressing the need, unless some how you hit a homerun pretty quickly with both picks.

Thinking Lazard, Cobb, Rodgers, a 2nd round rookie, a 7th round rookie and whomever is a solid WR room, really wouldn't be prudent IMO. Who knows how much longer one of the greatest QB in NFL history will be playing. Setting him up for his sunset run with a below average WR room, is not a smart move.

The more I research the more I see a large WR group That are largely late
Round 1 to Late Round 2 types. Not that we’d get a Top 10 type prospect anyway.

I think a trade back is in order with our #28 Day 1 selection. If we can’t get Day1? Then get a legit top 40-50 type and use that acquired draft capital to double down inside a top 100 overall type athlete. That way if we miss it’s not a huge expenditure. But also get a top 100 overall TE
that excels in receiving. Go 2WR and 1 TE inside Day 2

We need at least 1 legit Perimeter guy. Maybe a Burner Late Day 2-early day 3
We need at minimum another FA Wideout that’ll compete with Lazard and Cobb to add solid depth.

While I like your opinion, I trust the Packers better. ;)

I said it before and will say it again. If they feel that there are only 2-3 WR's that are head and shoulders above the other ones, I think they should move up to get one of them. Now if they agree with you and there isn't much difference in the top 10 WR's, trade out of the 1st round and try to grab 2 of them in the 2nd and 3rd round.

Based on all the mock drafts that I see online, people seem to be putting Wilson, Williams, London and Olave....pretty far ahead of the rest of the WR's. I also think that the FA and resigned contracts being so high on WR's this year, is going to entice teams to invest a 1st or 2nd rounder on a WR. Basically, it has increased the value of hitting on a WR's rookie contract.

That said, I think the Packers will be making an even bigger mistake than they did in 2020, if they wait until their #53 pick to grab a WR.

Realistic guys where the Packers pick.
1. Burks #22
2. Pickens #28
3. Dotson #53
4. Metchie #59
5. Tolbert #92
I am not advocating they draft all 5 of these guys. I am just saying I see value in each of them at these corresponding spots.

Glad you added the pick #...was going to say that some of those are not first rounders. Pickens might be a reach at #28, but I also don't see him or Dotson still being there at #53.

I predict that like 2020, there will be an initial run on the top 5-6 WR's in the first and then in the second, it will happen again. 2020 saw 6 WR's in the first 25 picks and 7 went in the first 27 picks of the 2nd round. I really don't see that changing much at all in 2022.

Personally it all depends on how the draft falls, I could easily see us leaving the first with two defensive studs that fell thanks to WR/QB runs....but

I'd prefer one from each from each of these buckets "minimum" if possible. My dream is Pickens and Burks both as I've shared elsewhere.

Burks/Pickens/Watson/Pierce/Dotson

Velus Jones (his age though I hate)/Bo Melton/Tyquan Thornton/Danny Gray later...

You've been here long enough to know this is not going to happen. Every morning I check in I have new posts in a dozen different threads and over 3/4 are WR options discussions. This is just another thread to rehash the same points made in dozens of others.

Obviously it’s a foregone conclusion that we are comparing our opinions with one another in this forum. It’s not necessary to elevate me to the NFL personnel grouping level. ;) But Thank You for that compliment!:)

I never at anytime said NOT to grab a Day 1 WR, I added that IF no one is there that’s deemed a top 20-30 value selection at #22? I gave the confidence in our staff to move around the board some and use those draft resources ti hit a couple players in the areas where they are valued. I’m not interested in overreaching to supply comfort to us fans. Get the players that will give us maximum values Day 1-2. Don’t reach to appease me.

If they think the best value is there at #35 or #45. So be it, make our move. Don’t appease me with a reach up 10 spots and then miss on a stellar DE or DT or OL that is a super beast

Well I don't expect for them to appease me, they let me down already in 2020 and beyond when it comes to WR. Hell if I am writing and sending another letter and draft evaluations to them! ;)

We joke and we both know that they have their own boards and rating systems and those will be what Gute will be going off of.

What I would expect and actually want, is for them to reach a bit if they have to at a position that myself and most of the football world knows is a high need for them, WR. For instance, if they are choosing between a CB that the Packers have at 17th best player and a WR that they have at 26th, I would want them to use the pick on the WR. Now if a CB that they had as 5th best player is sitting there, I might understand it. Probably wouldn't like it, but would understand. All I am saying, right now, need should trump many of the BPA scenarios, when it comes to WR.

IF Sauce Gardner drops to 22 and we don't pick him or trade with someone that wants him I will forever NOT be a Packer fan again. I'll be done. LOL

LOL....well that isn't happening, unless he is seen all over the internet smoking a bong.

But an interesting question for you. IF the Packers can trade up to say 7th or 8th and both Gardner and Wilson are there....who do you pick?

I'm not trading up to that degree ever except for a QB...but let's pretend I'm Gute and went to the bathroom for a second come back to the war room and am informed we traded up like idiots to there. I'm picking Gardner over any WR in this draft.

I'm picking Kyle Hamilton if there over any WR as well who may be there at that point too.

The price for FA WR's is going down by the day. After the draft the price will drop precipitously. The crazy money is gone.

I could see the Packers taking 3 Receivers in the draft. Maybe 2,4 and 7th round?

I agree, but I also think the quality of who to choose from is declining as well. Which if it was 5 years ago, no big deal. Unfortunately, the Packers are looking for a #1 WR, with the pocketbook of a #4 to spend.

Only reason I would pick Sauce is if I was planning on not resigning Alexander or I had a trade already set up for Sauce and some juicy steaks (good picks or players).

I honestly don't expect to get an immediate (production wise) #1 starting WR out of this draft, even by trading up. However, we do need to at least get 1-2 that will develop into quality starters in the next 2-3 years.

This just isn't true. Every great Packers Wide Receiver GB has had the last two decades has been taken after our first two picks of this year's draft, and around where our others are.

We have more draft equity to justify a double dip in the top 60 than ever before, the aspect of it all is chance of course and hitting it right (plus prospect staying healthy).

I will never pass over a Top 10 talent at ANY position (maybe excluding a QB in our case) - that is not the way to build good teams.

Well Wilson is potentially top 10 as well, which was why I gave you the option. ;)

I have CB pretty low on the "need" list, doesn't mean they can't use more, but as long as Jaire is in their future plans, the team has higher needs IMO.

I was strictly talking about the signing of a FA starting WR.

Now if you want to talk about the expectations of a rookie WR for the Packers, we can do that too. :)
