Seems Jan didnt have an issue with this?

Other fans staked it out at Austin Straubel Airport in Ashwaubenon, to get autographs from players. "I want Clay Mathews to sign my jersey that my husband gave me for Christmas," says Packer Fan, Jan Cavanaugh. Turns out the newly named, defensive player of the year wanted to make Jan's wish come true and signed her jersey.

Why didnt she mention Rodgers didnt sign her hat?

Jason Wilde mentioned this on 540espn

some people are just greedy and exploit things like having cancer to get sympathy. Either she failed to mention that she shows up every week for autographs or the news station didnt air that part of the interview. either way it was a hit job.

I dont think she is happy with being treated different, better or worst, just because of his condition. So IMO the media shouldn't have made this big deal of a non autograph.
And I bet she isnt happy at all about this situation and Rodgers being criticised.

And that's the problem. It's a smear, it's breathtakingly unfair (especially considering the latest news on it, about this woman already getting his autograph prior to this non-incident), and now the damage has been done.

Many people have pointed all this out to Florio on the thread at PFT, but he has yet to update his hit piece. My guess is he won't. The Packers need to get the truth into the news, and embarrass that hack.

Someone on one thread said he wouldn't want these people who are judging Rodgers on the basis of a video clip on his jury. That pretty much summed it up for me.

OMG!!

Where have you been?

Wondering where YOU'VE been! :happy0005: (And also, just receiving the usual brickbats at ESPN off and on this season :Heristical: - was also reading elsewhere, but I was just not enjoying the hostility to my team.)

How are you? (Gotta take off in a minute, but I'll be back tonight.)

I like Aarron Rodgers as much as any Green Bay fan (own his jersey, etc.), but I don't know if I can buy excuses for not acting like a decent human being. The video below of him ignoring a lady who fell out of the stands does not make me admire the guy. It's like ignoring a mugging. Wouldn't you have checked to see if she was alright? Was she alright? I don't know. Yeah, he's a great quarterback and I love the Packers, but ...

I agree he should have stopped to help, but there's a whole security crew standing right there to help her up. Someone probably told him to keep going, they got it.

Maybe he saw the cameras and thought they wanted an interview and didn't want to talk to the media right then.

Or, what I was going to mention, is he knew both the cameras and the lady were there for Clay and he didn't want to be selfish and steal the spotlight. Consider that she was there with a Matthews jersey and that Matthews seeks her out and says, "The stewardess told me about you, that you've been waiting a long time." Other than her making a brief mention about wanting Rodgers to sign that specific hat, it had nothing to do with Rodgers at all.

I just can't see Rodgers knowingly blowing off a cancer patient, especially with cameras running tape. I also can't see the Packers PR staff making such a blunder as to allow him to skip a media opportunity to sign swag for a cancer patient. That's why I think the piece wasn't about him at all, and was instead about Clay.

And as someone who was a huge fan of Florio and PFT, I'm very disappointed. He seriously came off as a huge **** in this story. I know he does stuff for ratings, but he was way out of line with this attempted character assassination.

I also think WBAY shouldn't have pulled the video, because that made the situation look worse. And they need to fire their editing staff.

Tons of idiots on the ESPN boards, especially the Bear trolls and they're having a field day with Rodgers.

It's basically the only thing they can jump on considering how well the Packers have played in the postseason.

Hey There -

I'm a Cal Bears fan for over 20 years. Saw Aaron play many times at Memorial Stadium. Been following him for years in the NFL now.

Thought you guys would be interested in this - which comes from a Cal Blog. (California Golden Blogs - can't post a link because I am a new member here. californiagoldenblogs dot com)
"At 56 seconds through the clip you will notice the security guy with the orange shirt black jacket and glasses wave off the lady in pink.

At the 59 second mark you will notice the same guy escorts Clay Matthews into the airport."

[I can't post the screen grabs that appear here.]

I hope you'll all go look at the photos and spread this far and wide over the internet.

GO PACK.

Not buying any of this "Rodgers was in a zone" nonsense.
Was Clay Mathews not playing in the same game?

Be honest... if that was Jay Cutler in the video you would be calling him the biggest ****** in all the NFL and you know it.
You don’t have to make excuses for players just because you want to believe that they are beyond cool or something. Some players are just jag offs and that is the way it is.
Rodgers comes off as one here.

Dan Hampton was a great player for the Bears but in person he is pretty much a jerk.
Gale Sayers was great but he seems kind of bitter don’t you think?
Does Jim McMahon seem like a guy you want to hang out with? Not to me.
By the way… as much as I hate the Packers I do like Clay Mathews and I wanted the Bears to draft him before they traded their pick away for Cutler.

Being in the NFC North, Bears fans should know that Rodgers is a standup guy, the way he acts in rival games and what not. It's ignorant to say that this is truly a character flaw of his and not just a mishap, just as it would be ignorant of us to say Cutler is a "jag off" and hates all his fans because hes more private. This is just another case of the media blowing things way out of proportion, and if you have to believe it to justify your hatred of this team, like other Bears fans, than so be it, but you're going to find acceptance here difficult.

You must have some sort of complex, with this "if it were the bears you would be saying otherwise."

It's already been discussed that what really happened is that Rodgers had signed a helmet for her THE PREVIOUS WEEK, and that security agents were escorting players out of the lobby, so probably the agreement was that no autographs should be signed whatsoever.

I can't believe this thread is up to 10 pages,..and in looking for the reason in the change of the title, as far as I can see,.. She's a regular at the airport, had got his siggy the week before on a helmet, and now wanted one for her favorite hat.

Now after reading 10 pages of comments, I can't remember who said what..but I think generally most people respect players at airports, as its generally a fast pace area, with definate plans to get to a gate or luggage ect.
For the most part it sounds like they just like to hang out and cheer on the players, and any time a player actually stops would be a bonus.

I wouldn't doubt if security is stepped up quite a bit now since this made such headlines.

Again, I'm too new to post links, but the WBAY site has a follow up story.
Packers Fan with Cancer Shocked by Criticism of Aaron Rodgers

By Marcie Kobriger
Last Friday, an Action 2 News report featured a breast cancer survivor seeking Aaron Rodgers's autograph as the Packers were departing for Atlanta. Video of the Packers quarterback walking past the woman as she held out a hat for him to sign went viral -- and Rodgers came under fire.
The woman at the center of the controversy says she's shocked and upset by comments critical of Rodgers's actions at Austin Straubel airport.
Jan Cavanaugh and her husband are die hard Packers fans. The pair is often at the airport to see the team off for away games and on the edge of their seats when the Packers play.
When she talks about the team, Jan includes herself on the roster, referring to the Packers as "we."
"We sat yesterday and watched the whole game, and we're so excited that we're going to play the Bears," she said.
But her excitement over an NFC Championship match-up has been tempered.
Aaron Rodgers and other players didn't autograph her cap as she saw them off to Atlanta -- but it's not the hat she's upset about, it's the Internet and radio chatter created by the video of Rodgers passing her by.
"I was terribly upset this morning because I did not realize what was online, and opened up my email," she said, "and I was just shocked."
Just a week earlier, Rodgers autographed Jan's pink jersey bearing the number 12, and a few years ago the now-star quarterback signed a number of things for her.
Jan says they've kept everything players have signed for them except for a few items they gave to family members.
While she is distressed over the controversy, Cavanaugh won't let it dampen her excitement for the packers.
"We're really big football fans and the Packers are our team, and we just think that this is the team to root for, so Go Pack Go!"

close this thread.....

Packers dont need this negative BS

I would leave it open. It's not a negative story at all, and would be a nice place for people to provide more and more proof about what kind of guy Aaron really is.

I think all doubters need to man up, that includes the haters on Bretts forum..you guys defend Brett and say wait till all evidence is out, yet you rag Rodgers right off the bat

As I have called you knuckle heads hypocrites in the past you really are one now

At least David has the common sense and logic to wait till he heard everything before passing judgment..
