I would love TT to go and get Jordan Cameron and a speed/pass catching RB for a change of pace. Lacy needs rest and thats what Starks is for but Starks can't catch out of the backfield. I think those would be the best bargains in free agency. Don't see any ILB worth paying. Spikes is an elite run stuffer but he is only a 2 down player, and in GB with all the sub packages he is more of a 1 down player. It doesn't make sense to pay him 3-4 million for base package use which we don't usually use that often.

Starks had 18 receptions in limited action last season, so he´s capable of catching the ball as well. The Packers don´t have enough cap space to add Jordan Cameron and a change of pace RB. The team needs to spend some of it on more pressing needs at NT, ILB and CB.

Rmbr guys.. Don't expect anything much if anybody actually.. I just don't see it.. Packer fans will come to realize gb had a chance to win it every year besides that one bad 4-12 season teddy Is so smart to handling the cap rmbr the rookie class is coming up 5mil give er say they could still sign tramon raji Kuhn etc but who is the next tier of players gonna need a pay raise in the years to come? Lacy # 1 and may have other young talent step up.. We just gotta relax not worry about signing people let's worry bout the draft

The Packers will have a hard time though addressing all positions of need on defense through the draft this season. It´s possible Thompson will count on Raji and Tramon to start this season and draft multiple ILBs but as long as none of them are re-signed he has to take a look at possible free agents as well.

I didn't think my post originally posted my bad but I know what you mean he has to sign somebody it's gonna be next nothing for the contract for depth and I see Ted trading back a few slots in the first to get McKinney or perryman in the early second but the boy from Clemson is gonna be our guy they love him

They have to address NT, ILB and CB though. It's not common to get three prospects capable of starting immediately at position of needs in a single draft.

James Starks is not a pass catching RB. RB's are supposed to have high catch percentages because it's usually a dump off or a high percentage throw. However, the only player on the team with a lower catch percentage was jarret Boykin. Him and rodgers are never on the same page and he drops a lot of catchable dump off passes. Starks is strictly a running specialist.

The type of player I am talking about will be somebody who plays that Cobb role of running but also a mismatch on a LB if he splits out or runs a route ala Shane vereen, Roy helu, theo rid****.

A lot of draft experts view McKinney

I took at look at the numbers and you're right about Starks not being a reliable receiver.

But I still don't think it's a pressing need to get a change of pace RB.

So unfortunately, being from New England and my boyfriend a die hard Patriots fan, I have to watch every patriots game every week. That being said, Wilfork is way past his prime. We want young, inexpensive talent on that defensive line. Were not a team that needs big names for ticket sales, we need impact players. Wilfork is not an impact player. This is the best year for the defensive line I have ever seen in the draft. That's where we should address our NT issue. Maybe give Raji or Guion (upon pending legal trouble) a shot, but this is the draft year for an impact NT in the 1st-3rd rounds. If we go after anything in FA that is not Tramon Williams, it needs to be a CB or ILB. We have WON FA so far, retaining two big names for "hometown discounts," which I NEVER thought would happen. Now we have the opportunity to do the same with Williams as he is still on the market. We pick up where we left off last year, add some new young talent in the draft and push for the Packers to be the next dynasty in football.
Vince Wilfork!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wilfork still provided excellent run defense during the 2014 season while he doesn´t provide any pass rush. With the Packers having other players being able to rush the passer there´s no need to get a ton of sacks from the NT position. There are several impact NTs available in this year´s draft but I don´t think there will still be one of them on the board when the Packers pick in the second round.

Tramon is the best CB still available in free agency, Thompson hopefully gets him re-signed.

We don't need an NT to produce sacks. We need an NT to swallow up the run. The patriots run a hybrid 3/4-4/3 defense where Chandler Jones is officially a DE/OLB, but definitely plays more of a DE in a 4-3 and Patrick Chung (safety) plays up to defend the run, as Browner and Revis in man coverage and McCourtey picking up the trash was more than effective. The DL was the patriots biggest weakness on defense last season, in part, from the inability for Wilfork to move his feet and make the play. The best part about Wilfork is his attitude and leadership attributes. Not his ability to stop the run. At 33 and 325 pounds, he's not fooling any GM in the league. Partly why Bob Kraft and Bill Bellicheck released a hometown hero with a 4.5 million dollar price tag.

oh, I don't know about that. I watched a few Patriot games and if the ball was going anywhere between the tackles Wilfork at least held the point of attack and could still shed and make a hit as good as anyone. Often times he did that with penetration too. They may have had a weak DL, but it wasn't Wilfork that was weak.

Reports are Wilfork has four teams bidding on him. There would be more bust the assumption is he just wants to play for contenders. The Patriots are still in it as well. So if he was not good last year he is fooling a lot of people.

All I'm going to say to this is: The Packers have had a HORRIBLE time drafting defensive linemen the past four years. Wilfork is a proven commodity who is not past his prime. He was the anchor on a Super Bowl team two months ago. He's better than any rookie who would come in this year. Or have we forgotten the likes of Jerel Worthy, BJ Raji (no impact for the past two seasons), Datone Jones and so on...

What do you think about a'la Peppers steal with... Lance Briggs. He's old, but he would love to kill for a ring, he can play 2 downs on the run as veteran ILB and last but but not least - he might be cheap. Could have 1 more year in the tank and to assemble Voltron with Pepp :D

Briggs already said he won't consider playing for the Packers.

More so than just a RB that can catch the ball I think the Packers, in today's NFL, could use a RB that can actually motion out of the backfield and line up at receiver. Lacy and Starks can catch but they can't play the occasional receiver position like Sproles/Vereen/Bush/etc. That's sort of why Cobb being able to line up in the backfield is nice but the with Cobb the defense can stay in dime or nickel. With an actual running back that can moonlight on some plays at receiver the defense has to keep more LBs in the game.

I really think the Packers should concentrate on upgrading the defense. The offense will be great once again.
